BL-C(2) and H110
For my 357 mag and 44 mag I have been using 4227 but I can't find any. I have found some H110 which looks like it will work well. Also for my rifle calibers I have found some BL-C(2) which seems to be a versatile powder. Any input on these two powders will be greatly appreciated. I also picked up a pound of aa2230, reloder 25 and H414. I basically bought what was available. Comments here will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a bunch...........Happyhunter201 |

I have no experience with BL-C(2) so I can't help you there. H110 will give you higher velocities than 4227. It requires magnum priming and a firm crimp for reliable ignition. Every data source advises not reducing charges with H110 or you are in danger of squib loads. Stick with published data and you'll be fine. The small difference between starting and maximum loads is correct, do not reduce the max load by 10% to start, stick with published data. Hodgdon advises not more than 3% reduction from max with this powder. H110 is temperature sensitive, unlike 4227, and I've read reports of problems with it in sub-freezing temps. Something to be aware of. Don't let your pistol get too hot shooting with this powder either, some have experienced forcing cone erosion with it. A lot of people swear by it, it is the magnum pistol powder all others are compared to. I'm about to do some work ups with it myself in 357 and Ruger-only 45 Colt. My bottle is labeled Winchester 296 though. The two are the exact same powder.

BL-C(2) and H110
BLC2 was the original military powder for 7.62x51. It is also a good powder for .223 Rem at least for 55 - 69 gr bullets and OK up to 77 gr. for me it has been as good or better than H335 and better than Varget for these loads.

Any experience with Reloder 25, which I understand is a fairly new powder, and the AA2230?
Thanks |

I've used both AA2230 and BL-C(2) in .223 The BL-C(2) worked fine with 55 gn Blitzkings, but the 40 gr didn't like it much. Could just be my rifle. Better luck with 2230, since anything from 36gr Varmint Grenades to 55gr Blitzkings shot fine. BL-C(2) also woks well in the .308 and 30-30, in my experience. I used RL 25 and the slightly faster RL22 in my 7mm rem maf with 120, 140 and 160 gr bullets. I like the RL25 but given a choice my rifle loves RL22. Still, it should work well in any of the larger calibers that use slower powders.

H-110 and WW 296 are hard to beat for velocity performance in magnum revolver cartridges. However, I gave up on H-110 and WW 296 because of the excessive muzzle flash. I can't imagine what it would be like at night in a house. Although I guess if you shot at an intruder and missed, you would at least set him on fire.

I have used H110 with a 300 grain jacketed bullet in my Ruger Blackhawk .45 Colt. It was clean burning and recoil was very manageable.

You have a reloading manual? If so READ it. Check where those powders fit into your reloading agenda.

BLC-2 in 30-30 and 300 Savage, both accurate with 150's, it is listed for 8mm mauser but haven't tried it in the bigger cases.
H-110 in 357 & 41 magnums accurate and clean with 158 grn and 210-215 grn, jacketed or lead, no problems. |
