New to Firing Line, looking for great instructor in Arlington, WA area
Hello there, I am fairly new to guns and would like to find a great instructor or class but am not having any luck, I talk with a few at the local range and I am not at all impressed. They all seem to "talk down" to me and act as if I don't know a dang thing, very upsetting to say the least. I live in Stanwood but will travel to Bellevue area for the classes I see there if I need to.
Any one out there live in this area and have any thoughts on classes closer to home? Like I said I am fairly new at shooting but want to become better (a lot better) I am excited about learning more but cannot find a class or instructor that seems worth the money and the time. Any suggestions would be welcome and thank you in advance. Oh, my husband has offered to teach me as he has been shooting for years, he hunts and it is proficient in all types of guns as it is what he basically does with the military for over 20 yrs, but I would like an actual class. |

Ask at the http://www.northwestfirearms.com forum. You might get better results.

Northwestfirearms is down right now.
There is NorPoint Shooting Range in Arlington. FireArms Academy of Seattle holds occassion classes there. I highly recommend FAS. Wades is Belluvue. Don't know how they rate. Last edited by MarkDozier; January 17, 2013 at 11:08 PM. |

thank you for your responses, I have decided to take some classes at Insights but will have to go to Bellevue, but than it should be well worth the trouble.
I have been practicing at Norpoint but I am not all that excited about their classes. Nice range though. Thanks again. |

Norpoint host the classes by FSA. I check and they have none listed at norpoint. Insights sounds good but they are a bit pricey.

Goldenpawzmom, welcome to TFL. I'm always happy to see another woman on the board.
One of the first things you should do is visit the website, Cornered Cat. It's run by our own pax (Kathy Jackson), who's one of the moderators here. It's for women, by a woman, and has great info that will answer many of your questions (and confirm your instinct that it's better to get professional instruction than to rely on your husband for training ). Also, she's located in Washington state, teaches there (classes just for women), and can for sure recommend good instructors if you can't make it to one of classes. And don't be afraid to PM her with any questions... |

A great place to train is the Firearms Academy of Seattle located about halfway between Seattle and Portland, Oregon. They have classes for all skill levels and some women's only classes. Take a look at their website, www.firearmsacademy.com. I've taken about seven courses from them and my daughter, at age 20, took one of their defensive pistol classes. Great place and people. Good luck. best wishes- oldandslow |

Check out the Boeing Gun Club. About 6months ago, there was a married couple that taught those classes. He was an ex-military sniper, Treasury agent and some thing else w/ lots of experience. They have a web site but darn if I can remember what it is. At any rate, some one from their club can point you to their site.

I'm teaching a two-day class for women at Norpoint Training Center in Arlington in July. Would love to see you there.
