Joe thug vs shotgun

Okay my question is, which will do more damage to Joe Thug at less than 3 yards, a slug or 00 buckshot?

I know the 00 buck shot will not spread much at that distance, however once it hits the body it will spread out while it is going through the body. The slug very likely will completely penetrate the torso creating a .71" or so hole all the way through.

so the question is will the buck shot do more damage to the human torso than a slug at that range?

I dont want to hear all the overpenetrations "it might kill your neighbor" mumbo jumbo. Just assume you live out in the middle of now where and you have no neighbors.

The buckshot at ten feet will start to spread some what. Maybe 2-3 inches, when that group of pellets hits soft tissue, it will work just like a meat grinder. That area of the body being hit will nolonger be soild tissue but so badly torn up that nothing can be done to repair the dammage.

It's like hitting the target with 9 shots from a 33 cal machine gun!!

At 3 yards, you need a vote of:
C) All of the above

I don't think the lay person could tell the difference in the wounds caused by either with the naked eye:barf:

I keep 3.5" 00b in my Nova, that's 2.25oz and 18 pellets of man-stopper. I'd wager that's quite a bit more damage than any slug (out to about 20 yards, anyway)

I would have to agree with Brent. When I patterened my shotgun at 25 yds. My 00,#1 all srtayed on a pie plate. I would think from this that there will be much less than the 2 to 3 inches of spread at less than 9 feet. The ER doc, or corner will also be pulling out the wadding left in the cavity at that distance.

I have had the opportunity to see both.

Slug BG was DRT almost tore in half, 3' from the muzzle.

00 Buck contact wound-wad stuck in entrance wound about an 8" circle of holes out his back every pellet exited. DRT, he did go to his knees and pray to god as he expired.

I have 00 Buck in my bedside 870, works for me.

Where there may be potential for debate of the effectiveness of Buckshot....there isn't for slugs so that's what I like in the bedside 870.
