Need magazine suggustion for Springfield mil-spec

I need to buy some extra magazines for my Springfield armory mil-spec. Should I get factory mags or are there any 3rd party companies that are recommended? Also are there any 10 round mags with a grip extention that you suggust. Thanks

You are going to get a lot of replies about what magazines work best in a 1911, as there are many quality makers. My milspec has about 5000 trouble free rounds through it so far, using my one factory mag and the rest are Chip McCormick mags, the eight rounders. I had some of his ten rounders which worked fine but the pistol felt off-balance with them. Listen to what other posters say and then find the best deal you can on quality mags and give them a try.

best wishes- oldandslow

The big three: I have had success with all of these:

Kimber Pro Tac Mags
Chip McCormick Power Mags
Wilson Combat

You can choose the 7 v 8 v 10 round capacity, they all have worked for me.

Really hard to go wrong with Chip McCormick Powermags or Shooting Stars. I've never had an issue with McCormicks and while you can buy more expensive mags (Wilson), you can't any that are more reliable.

Chip McCormick works for me

I find the Chip McCormick to work very well in my Springfield Loaded. I use both "Classic" and "Power Mag" and find them to perform flawlessly.

"Classic"
This 8 round magazine will be as good or better then a factory magazine and is less expensive than the seven round from Springfield, this magazine fits fully into your 1911 grip.

"Power Mag"
The 8 round Power Mag extends the slightest bit beyond the grip do to the plastic end cap on the magazine. I use this magazine with my home defense rounds, the springs in these can handle being compressed for long periods of time, mine stay fully loaded.

I have never used a 10 round magazine in my 1911.

NO...

I like Mec-Gar magazines...best bang for the buck, IMHO...

Nothing wrong with Wilson's either - you may want to look at their ETM line...pricy though...

I have four Springfield mags and four el cheapo, no name mags from Cheaper That Dirt. ($8.00) All have performed flawlessly. No need for designer, boutique mags for me.

I prefer the Colt/Checkmate hybrid magazines, since they have the tapered feed lips of the original design plus the wadcutter release flare of more modern designs. Mine have been flawless for many tens of thousands of rounds, and cured more than a few pistols of occasional three-point jams.

I have had good luck with McCormicks, Wilson, Checkmate, MecGar and older GI contract mags with the numbers on the bottom (except for the 19200- ASSY 5508694 MFR 30745 which seem to have very spotty QC issues).

There are many good companies. I found the best to be the wilson and chip mccormicks.

The other custom companies like nighthawk, ed brown, and les baer have their own too but are quite more money then the wilson and cmc's.

Stay away from the Kimpro mags! No 1911 ive had has ever liked them

Nighthawk uses rebranded Novak/ACT magazines, and at $24.95 per, they are cheaper than Wilson 47D's at $31.95 a pop...

Nickel plated Mec-Gar's are $18.99 at CDNN...best bang for the buck, so to speak...

Chip McCormick has worked well for me. I have a few off brand mags that are terrible.

I use the CMC 8 & 10 rd PowerMag+ in my Mil-Spec and Loaded Target. Both mags are flawless in either pistol.
