32 Revolver

Does anyone know anything about this gun? It is a S&W 32 Revolver and the serial number is on the bottom of the grip which is 42603 with a star after the numbers.
Thanks
Ronnie

It's a 32 Double Action 3rd Model made in 1883.
The star signifies it went back to S&W for either a refinish and /or repair some years back.

I was given my grandad's smith & wesson .32 long. I was wondering if anyone could help me determine the age. I'm just curious, because it could potentially be from the '40s as far as I know. The serial number on the bottom is 766xxx. Thanks in advance!

If it has a round butt it's a model 30, a square butt a model 31. Both models had serial numbers running from 712954 in 1961 to 826977 in 1976.

The serial number and fixed sights make it a model 10 made in 1970.
A model 15 would have a "K" prefix serial number and adjustable sights. If it is stamped as a model 15 it's simply miss-stamped. While not real common there are quite a few miss-stamped models out there.

Thanks what I thought. seems funny that Quality control would allow that mistake.

Smith 7 Wesson Model 18

I just acquired what I believe is a model 18 and I would like to know the approximate age. Behind the yoke it is marked
CNE 1209
18-7 (looks like a stamped number)
046 (another stamped number I think)
Can you tell me the age and what the numbers mean?

.32 or .38?
32 Safety Hammerless 3rd Model. SN's ran from 170000 in 1909 to 242981 in 1937.
38 Safety Hammerless 4th Model. SN's ran from 116003 in 1898 to 220000 in 1907.

Post 2004. You can call S&W customer service and they'll give you the DOB over the phone for free.

Thanks, Layton, it's .38. Looks like it's been shot just a few times. Outstanding original finish.

help with year

Hi,

Can anyone help with the year of manufacture of my .22 S&W model 17.4 I've
just bought in France serial no. 85K46XX. ( the last two digits I've replaced with XX, I notice other posters don't give away the full number online is there a reason for this?) . Thanks in advance.
