I had the same problem loading Varmit Grenades in my .22 Hornet. I ended basing my loads off of load date for the 35 grain V-Max. Started on the lower side and worked up till I found the most accurate load that still had decent velocities and no signs of over pressure. I still have a few of the Varmit Grenades left, but after I load them, I won't buy anymore. If load data was more readily available, I would pick up some more as they do work pretty well, but I would rather go with a bullet with more info out there for it.

The 9 twist is pretty fast for the 36gr bullet, and may not stabilize it, or spin it so fast that it comes apart before reaching the target.

Lyman's #49 has load data
Lyman's #49 has load data for the 36 gr. Varmint Grenades, but unfortunately, I don't have it at work with me. I don't remember all the info, but I can post it this evening if you're interested. Maybe someone else can post it sooner.
I seem to recall COL being 2.240", but let me confirm that. I loaded some test rounds for my Savage .223 as well, and I purchased the manual explicitly because it had 36 gr. Varmint Grenade data. I'm using Varget for powder, and the min/max load is 25.2/28.0 grains, but I honestly don't see how you can cram 28.0 grains of Varget into a .223 case, it looks pretty full at 26.0 gr. Probably not much help to you right now, seeing as how you would like to use different powders, but I thought I'd chime in with my $0.02. Cheers! McClintock |
