What a beauty! A HP that beautiful is worthy of a custom presentation case and holster.

SURPRISED would be more like it.

The gun Browning designed for the French was a profoundly different gun... and had little in common with the BHP many of us know and love. (Both his design and the BHP we know today had a 13-round mag, but his design was quite different, and was striker-fired, not hammer-fired. Dieudonné Saive, at FN, gets most of the credit for the design we know.

WVsig posted a pretty informative series of comments here on the TFL on this topic, recently... and others added interesting details. Here's the link:

The gun in the photo is a beautiful gun.

I've never understood the need for that type of rear sight on that model. (It's calibrated for up to 500 yards, isn't it?) It IS something like the sight on the original Browning Patent application drawings, however, but seems much larger/longer.)

The original French request was for a "pistol carbine".....so FN made the original HP with a detachable stock/holster and tangent sights.

I've shot mine with the wood stock and 500 yards is a bit much.

Typically the "Capitan" HP's did not have a stock slot ("Capitan" was only used as a model name for a few short years)
Having a tangent sight and no stock slot is odd, but FN does a lot of odd things.
