Smith 629
I've already bought two guns this year, so the wife may not be too supportive, but I've kinda fallen in love with the Smith Performance Center 629, .44 Spcl ... wondering if anybody has one, how it shoots, love it-hate it?

A model 629 isn't a 44SPL, it's a 44mag.

I have the 629 PC with the 2 5/8"barrel. I love it....... It shoots like a dream. For a factory gun it is very smooth.

I have 4 production line 629's. I like them all. No problems.

If only they'd make a 624 with three, four and five inch barrels!

I'd pay quite a bit for a 21st New Century commemorative.

I have a 629 3" ( an RSR gun, ported, Trail Boss ) ....and its fun to shoot - but its a "handful" with full power .44 mag loads .....and I have a model 629 DX model in 8 3/8" barrel...that is a really easy gun to shoot ( much less recoil because of the extra weight ) - the DX model has changeable front sights ( red ramp, gold bead, etc) which is kind of a nice feature.
I don't have one of the performance center 629's ....but I've fired a few and they were very nice guns. ( I also have a few of the older model 29's ....in 4", 6 1/2" and 8 3/8" barrels all in Nickel / which are some of my favorites as well ) ...in .44 mag... |

No that was not,,, I’m sobbing on my keyboard at this minute. I would even take a 5 inch 21 right now like Tom described. I’m about half way though stretching the barrel on my 21. I’m going to call it Smith & Wesson Smith & Wesson 44 as it’s marked on the barrel. Now if Ruger would only make a 100 or 101 in a 5 shot 44 special, well,, I can’t type any more.

I had a 626-Classic with a 6" barrel, it was a good gun but to large for me. If I was around a lot of bears this would be the gun. I had a lot of fun with the gun and it was very good quality just large to carry around.
Smith Performance Center 629 looks like it has the smooth cylinders some people like those for CQC, a 44mag would be a hell of a nightstand gun.. |

I have a 629 (not PC) with a 4-inch barrel. It is a joy to shoot; without exception, my friends eat this thing up. There is just something viscerally satisfying to lighting up the .44 Magnum round!
