1100 questions?

Does anyone know if they make or have made an 1100 without the scroll work on the bolt/receiver? I am trying to find an autoloader to "play" with but don't like the scroll work. I know that I can go for an 1187P but the price difference doesn't seem worth it. I have no need for 3" shells, so that pretty much nullifies the advantage of the 1187 as far as I can tell. (For the record, I'm not much of a shotgun person, have had a Moss 500 for several years, but hardly shoot it.)

ps Anyone have pics of their tricked out autoloaders, competition, "tactical", or other wise? I would love to see them.

I just put a used 1100 Special Field on lay-away it has no scroll work on the receiver or bolt. It has the straight stock and 21" full choked barrel.

S.F.S. is correct...the "Special Field" receiver is devoid of any "engraving"...but there IS a catch...the "SF" uses a SHORTER forend and, IIRC, a slightly different barrel-lug arrangement, so I don't know if barrels interchange between "Regular" 1100's and the "Special Field" models...on the other hand, I have a friend who has a friend who...well, SOMEBODY this guy knows used to work for Remington, and he had at least ONE "Regular", i.e., NOT "Special Field" 1100 receiver that he got ahold of that was "plain", and had it engraved by an outside engraver...don't know if such receivers are available to EVERYONE or not, but it HAS been done in the past...FWIW....mikey357

You are correct about the shorter forend but any 1100 barrel will interchange on the receiver.
I called Remington and Dave McC checked out one of his books to verify that..

I wonder if Remington made 1100s when they ran that Sportsman series back in the '80's. IIRC, there were several models without the fancy stuff.

Gizmo99 - Yes to the 1100. I think it was called the Auto 12. A friend has one and I've looked them up in the 'books'. They were made for a couple of years in the mid-80s and are quite plain with a genuine hardwood stock.

No, come to think of it, without looking it up, they were called the Sportsman 12 Auto.

I know that the 1100 Special Field came into production in 83 and ceased in 99. For about the first 3 yrs they were out they had the fixed tube barrel in Full, Mod. and I.C.

At any rate, without a lot of "my buddy knows a guy who...", the guy that HAD the UN-engraved, PLAIN Rem. 1100 receiver was a
former Remington employee, who now works selling target-grade shotguns out of Talladega, AL...may, or may not, have any more available, I don't know...shop's name is "Heritage Guns", and NO, they don't have a website, BUT...their 'phone number is 256-362-2344...I believe you want to ask for "Bill"....hope this helps....mikey357
