How do you remove and re-install a front sight for a Sig 229? Is it best to take it to a smith or can I do it myself? I am installing a Williams firesight.

I found two advertised replacement sights. One is a dovetail. The other didn't say. The only exploded view I could find shows the front sight as part of the slide in which case it would have to be milled off before installing a new one. Unless you have a milling machine you should take it to a smith. George

The easiest way to remove/install sights on Sig pistols is with the Sig sight pusher tool. It's not cheap (around $100 I think). Sights may also be removed the old-fashioned way...with a brass punch and hammer.

The only Sig that I'm aware of which the front sight can NOT be removed is the P230.

Front sights on the Sig can be a little tricky to install. The trailing edge will want to climb up away from the base of the dovetail if you're not careful.
