209-4 in 1 oz. 12 guage load
I picked up 2 boxes of remington 209-4 by accident and loaded 50 1 oz 12 guage shells with them. The 209-4 is formulated for the .410 bore. I used Federal 12S0 wads and 20.5 grains of green dot in a Remington Uni-body hull. Any one have any idea if they'll work or not?

The reason for the 209-4 primer is the .410 payload is so light that a normal 209 primer will sometimes start the wad/shot charge moving BEFORE the powder has a chance to start burning. So, the .410 special primers have a smaller charge of the explosive that makes them work. It's called brissance. Call it a smaller spark if you will.
Since green dot is one of Alliant's faster shotgun powders, you should be alright. Just don't use them for some heavy charge of slow burning magnum power in a heavy hunting load. Or in cold temps.

Thanks
Thanks for the reply, Snuffy. The guy at the gun shop said the same thing. I think I might have used them before. At the time I thought they were just the old packaging for the Rem 209P.
