Worth of a West German P226?
Is a German 9mm P226 in very good condition worth $550? Only comes with 1 15 round mag.
Is this a price that is lower than normal? I want a 226 or 228, but I don't really need one. This will mostly just be a range gun. Would I feel stupid later for passing up this price? |

Last one I bought was about a decade ago, police trade in, for about $400. I'd buy it now for 550 and hurry and grab some hi caps, factory or MecGars.

Hard saying without more details or seeing some pictures but $550 sounds like a good price though maybe not a screaming deal especially with only one magazine and there are plenty of old P226s around so I would not be too worried about not getting it unless you really want one now.
Is this a CPO, Certified Pre Owned, P226 that comes in the red case/box?? Does it have matching serial numbers on the frame, slide, and barrel? The barrel serial number may not be visible unless removed from the pistol The really desirable and hence higher priced P226s are the W.German/German P226s that are in pristine or near pristine condition with original finish that come with the original case, manual, magazines, and test target. Those can go for upwards of $1000 if unfired since leaving the factory. In the last year or so SIG did refinish a bunch of W. German/German P226/P228ss and sell them as CPOs. There is nothing wrong with that but one should be aware that it is not the original finish and that makes it hard to tell the actual condition/useage of the pistol such as the wear on the frame rails. Not only was the frame and slide refinished but reports are that so were the barrels. Also I personally would steer clear of very early W. German P226s with the scalloped "mud rails" unless I did not plan to shoot it very much. Those early ones had a tendency to crack the frame rails after some heavy use. I have read that serial numbers in about the U135XXX through U157XXX range probably had mud rails. IMO the P226/P228 are still the very elite of the elite 9MM combat pistols and own 2 P226s myself along with a P228 and are my very top favorite 9MM pistols. Good luck! Thanks for that detailed reply, Sig.
I'm gonna hold off on it. CDNN is selling them, so I wouldn't be able to see it in person first. |

For a nice W. German Sig I'd say about $600-650, maybe even $700 or so. I'd love to find one for $550.

CDNN is a very good reliable source for used Sigs. They have sold tons of them. They are generally true to the listed grade. A Good grade gun will show some wear but be 100% functional... In todays market $550 is a good price. IMHO

...and for $150, you can send it to Sig for the Sig Service Plan. They will clean it, replace the springs, give it a look over and replace the sights with new Sig Night Sights. Very fast turn around also.
