Taurus M66, what do I do with it now???

Hello all,
I have a Taurus M66 .357 6 inch barrel, 6 in the wheel.

It is in fine shape and I wonder now that I have an XD-45 if I should keep it and if so for what?

This brings me to the forum for some opinions please...

Should I keep it, and if so... Why should I keep it?

Some of my thoughts are because it is a 6" barrel model it could be a range gun, but why? I'd rather the practice with my XD.

So what do you all think? Keep it or sale it?

I have the same revolver - a 1988 stainless model 66.
If I bench rest it, it's dead on target. (it shoots better than I do )

I'd keep it. Everyone should have at least one wheel gun, IMHO.

Besides, never sell a gun unless it is absolutely necessary

If it's a reliable gun, keep it. Every one needs a .357 revolver.

Secondly, if you were thinking of selling it or trading it, you most likely won't get out of it what you expect.

I love my 4" M66. It was my only gun for a while, so I've put a ton of rounds through it (all magnums). I've never had a problem and it's dead on accurate. If you're happy with it, I'd keep it. I don't care what anybody says about it.

I can think of several reasons to keep it.

In time, you will find that wheelguns are more fun to plink with than revolvers.
You don't have to take them apart to clean them and there are no aggravating magazine lips to chew your thumbs when you reload the peice after its been emptied.
Also, .38 ammo is cheaper than .45 acp ammo too.

Heaven forbid a bad situation strike you, but it would be better to have an extra gun stashed in your home or vehicle in case you are assaulted than the extra few hundred dollar bills that will be eaten up by cell phone bills and cable television bills too.
Your main gun might malfuction or tear up and have to be sent back to the factory and the revolver would be a good back up.

I can't think of any reason to sell it, unless you are really hurting for cash...and on that one, I can assure you I regret every revolver I ever sold when I was hard up for cash...

IMHO, if it works well, keep it as a spare gun. You're unlikely to get what you think it's worth out of it, it being a "lowly Taurus" and all.

If it doesn't work well, get rid of it.

Because shooting a wheelgun is different from shooting an autoloader.

Some of those Taurus 66's were made pretty well. If you've got one that is reliable, I'd say keep it.

You'll never get very much for it on resale. It breaks my heart to see these selling used for less than 3/4 their price new. Taurus honors their warranty on them if it ever does break, too.

Keep it! XD's are great guns. I have an XD 45 compact. But, if something happens and you have to send your XD in for repairs or whatever it's nice to a have a spare weapon. And besides....revolvers are just plain fun to shoot.

Guess I'll get to see how good their lifetime warranty is, I'm sending mine in because every now and again the trigger can't be pulled back. I entered the serial number on their website for a work order to return it and discovered it was made in 1994. I bought it from a friend about 5 years ago. M66 .357 with a 2 1/2 inch barrel.
Does anyone know the frame size on these revolvers? I am thinking about buying a J frame S&W as a pocket/BUG.
