Trimmer pilot won't insert into 380 Auto case

Trimmer pilot won't insert into 380 Auto case

I called Hornady this afternoon because Hornady trimmer pilot #15 will fit into a 9mm case, but I will not insert into a .380 Auto case.

The tech asked me if I resized before trimming and I say "Yes". He said that was the problem. Resizing made the case too small.

I thought it was a common practice to resize then trim, am I wrong?

Are these new cases? I just tumble them and then load them on my progressive press. The only pistol brass I trim is brand new. I rarely get any of that.

Don, none of them are too long, I just wanted to make them uniform for taper crimping.

Can't FATHOM trimming a .380 case...or any other straightwall semi-auto case, for that matter. Waste of time and resources.

Straight wall cases almost never need trimming.. That said,, I trim my 45-70 cases only to make sure every case is exactly the same length. I have only had to do it once and the cases will wear out before they ever NEED a trimming again.
