new 22-250

i've been lurking around here for the past few weeks as i have started reloading about a month and half ago.

last week i bought a brand new rem. model 700 adl in 22-250 for $375. i put a 4-12 leupold on it and worked up some test loads for it. i got a lot of info from you all on here. you guys really are a great help.

my best load shot .71 inches at 100 yards. (50gn vmax, win brass, win. lg primer, 39.5 gns h380 2.345" overall length) i know thats nothing earth shattering, but i was pleased with the results of my first rifle reloads. i only loaded 6 different loads with the vmax and sierra 55 boat tail hollow points. all shot under an inch. i am going to load up some more test loads for the weekend.

anybody out there have any loads they like for this particular rifle?

again i'm new to reloading and am really enjoying the testing and working up loads process, as well as hanging out on here. can't wait until june when all the young woodchucks are on their own and i can start shooting.

Slightly off subject, but where did you find a new ADL? Is it wood or synthetic?

I don't know about his, but two of my local WalMarts have them, both wood and synth (mostly synth) for $364 all day long. The only catch is, almost all of them are .270 or .30-06. I remember seeing one 7mm and one .223 ... the choices are limited.

i got it at ace sporting goods in washington, pa. it was the only one they had left. all the other ones i have seen have been in 30-06 or 270 as well. i checked some of the other local gun shops as well and was not able to find a 22-250. i orginally asked if they had any in 223 but the only ones they had were the one 22-250 and some '06s and 270's. and to answer your question, it is a synthetic stock.

For my model 700 VSSF in 22-250 the most accurate powder/load combo by far has been IMR 4895, 55gr Vmax, CCI BR primers. I have worked up a lot of them but this one has .30-.40 inches over the others at 100 yards. Of course individual rifles will vary all over, but that is a good place to start.

With my Rem 700VLS I worked the powder in .2 grain increments. after finding the best load. I started tweaking the OAL in .005 increments. My best ever group was under .2 MOA ( .375 edge to edge) with 39.0 gr of H380 and the sierra 55gr. HPBT. the Sierra 55gr. BlitzKing came closest with 35gr of I4895.

36gr. AA4064 or VV N-150 (full case unlike the other powders listed)
CCI or FC Primer
2.510" OAL

Half inch from 6 different rifles.

You will want to work up to this, starting at about 38.5-39gr of H-414.
I've had 2 different rifles shoot under 1/2" using 42gr H-414--Rem9 1/2M--WW brass--52gr HPBT@3856 FPS. My Ruger M77V will shoot .377 groups if I do my part at 100 yards and .512 at 200 yards. I just got some Nosler brass and I'll let you know if it makes a difference.

i got some time to mess around at the reloading bench and shooting bench after work toaday. i tried a few more loads and got some better results. with 39gns of H380 50gn vmax i was averaging groups of .601". i am pretty pleased with those loads right now, being that the 700 adl has a light barrel and the trigger could use some work. but, i am at least in the ball park for woodchucks now. i am going to shoot these rounds over my buddy's chrono.
