Can I bring a pistol to the range?
I live in NJ (you must be 21 to purchase handguns or handgun ammunition) i'm 18 years old. I dont not currently own any andguns for obvious reasons ^..
I was wondering If I could legally drive to the range with a friends handgun to shoot. I know im not legaly allowed to buy rifle ammunition untill im 21 but its 100% legal for me to drive to the range with a rifle, and ammunition for it....does anyone know.... Any help is appreciated Thanks! -dave

You might want to call the range and ask them. You can also call your local PD, Sheriff Dept or Hiway Patrol.
You will probably get a lot of answers here. With all due respect, I don't know that I want to trust a legal issue to some strangers with unknown legal background or expertise on an Internet forum. Scott

Yeah, call these guys: "range and ask them. You can also call your local PD, Sheriff Dept or Hiway Patrol."
Bet a buck you get at least three different answers! |

Considering the Jersey City police captain told me in no uncertain terms that "citizens should never own handguns", I'd say you may have issues calling various departments.

I would recomend just taking your friend with you to the range. Go at a time when both of you can.

What has NJ come to?
From 1959 to 1968 I resided in the Garden State on the edge of Lakewood Township near the northern-most edge of the Pine Barrens. In 1959 I was 13 years old and my best friend and I would buy a couple of boxes of .22s ($0.49 per box of 50) and shoot all day in the woods and nearby gravel quarry. Woods are gone and filled with light industry and huge ugly and souless houses. Gravel quarry is fenced off with chain link.
When and why this shift to 21 to purchase ammo? And are people restricted by law, aside from hunting, to shooting at ranges? Dreamed of moving there about 20 years ago and then woke up in a cold sweat. |

At the ranges here you cant shoot a pistol or revolver alone until your 21. Anyone younger must be with an adult. Same for a rifle only you have to be 18. period.
