Lead bullet/powder combo ?

I think i bought my last gun, (lie

) I got a 22 Hornet that just loves 35g V-max over H110 at a particular length, i want to shoot "my" lead bullets but have not been able to get below 1 inch groups with H110 so I'm looking into different powders, and being a child of convenience, I'm hoping to find something local, not mail order...any suggestions ?

I have NO experience with the Hornet, but I've been playing with cast bullets for decades. My Lyman Cast Bullet handbook shows plenty of powders for a 37 grain cast bullet, but none of them are H110. They recommend Red Dot, 700X, PB, Green Dot, Unique and SR-7625, all pushed between 1300-2000 fps. The bullet they use is the Lyman 225107.

Hello, unclekuster. What weight are your cast bullets? I have had excellent results using IMR4227 powder.

I cant tell you which number the bullet is off hand, but they weigh out at 46-47g with two grease grooves and a gas check, round nosed. Made from wheel weights. I just tried some AA 1680 with better results, trying the Hornady 45g HP/Bee also, but not done yet, even tho they are a little spendy. Havn't tried the 4227 "Yet", only need more time.

Hello, unclekuster. I have been shooting cast in my custom Shillen barreled Hornet since the late 90's. Twist is 1-14". I have had excellent accuracy using H4227 powder..this has since been discontinued..not sure about the "new" IMR 4227. I have been able (sometimes) to equal best jacketed bullet accuracy at 100yds. But on average I would say 3/4" to 1" is average.
I have tried all the faster shotgun type powders Lyman's book lists..but I get alot of fliers from those very small charges.
