Winchester 3030

I have an old Winchester 3030 model 94 that I am trying to find out the history on. On the base of the barrel there is a stamp "W R 23" also there is a place where a brass tag would have been inset into the butt which I can only assume would have had the same marking and number.
How can I go about finding out 1. where this rifle was used and 2. what it might be worth?

brentinnes, do you know the year of manufacure for your Model 94? That would help determine the specific Model 94 version you have as well as a potential value. You can visit the link below to help find the year of manufacture.
