The simple truth is that our elected representatives are not honoring their oaths of office and are violating our highest law. Secondary to that, is that many people provided a government education, probably don't even know what the law is, and therefore do not hold the representatives accountable to the law.

In the end, our representatives have banned foreign competition and infringed upon all American's rights, and the American people have not done enough to throw these criminals out of office or in jail.

The problem is there are to many stupid "feel good laws" that in reality don't do a anything, but prohibit law abiding people from owning and using guns that are rarely or never used in a crime.

That's true. The law is supposed to punish those that commit crimes, i.e. theft, fraud, and force.

However, we have come to a point where our representatives have been allowed to pass illegal laws and nothing is done to them.

As a result, just owning things, or even speaking things have actually become crimes in the eyes of our corrupted government, even if you have not really committed any crime at all.

The highest law in our country states that the right to bear arms shall not be infringed. Yet, we have thousands of infringements upon this law. It's not the criminals that are punished, but every American whether they've committed a crime or not.

The highest law in our country states that Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech. Yet we have hundreds of abridgments upon this law. Once again, it's not the criminals that are punished, but every American instead.

And, on and on...

People are finally waking up though now, as a result of the problems that are being created, so that's the good news.

Sorry I missed your initial questions, I was not able to reply until the thread had already grown past the first page, and I meant to get to this one yesterday too.

Yes, the Obama threat to permanently ban "assault rifles" has inflated prices as with most semi-auto rifles, however, the prices on the PTRs were rising a couple of years before the election simply due to increasing demand as more people found out about them. What's interesting, and ironic, is that many people seem unaware that it was two Republicans, Ronald Reagan and George Bush Sr., that were responsible for some of the worst infringements on the right to bear arms, in our nation's history, including permanent bans, yet so many "Republicans" are scared of Obama. Obama can't do any worse than Ronald Reagan and George Bush - both parties are corrupt.

Two years ago, you could buy a brand new PTR-91 for only $650! Over the last two years, the price has continued to climb, and is now double that.

Original H&Ks are selling for four times their original value, simply due to collector value. Even a basic HK-91 goes for about $3000 now. So, the H&K rifles have been a good investment too.

I suspect that if our politicians manage to pass more illegal arms restrictions, not only will they attempt to ban semi-auto rifles, but they will focus on the larger caliber semi-automatics, such as .308 and 50 BMG. So, any .308 or 50 BMG should be a good in investment in that regard.

Wrong Comparison

While I understand everyone's concerns, I think the constant arguments comparing the PTR and the AK is irrelevant. I own both guns and each has it's advantages and disadvantages. I like my PTR's because they are so versatile for combat. I can throw a claw-mounted scope on and be pretty accurate out to 800 yards. I can then pop it off and throw on a eotech or just go open sights for close quarters. The biggest attractive quality of the PTR for me is the ability to be an all around useful gun in many situations. The AK could never reach that far, but is more reliable in close combat.

Let's face it, if we ever have to actually take part in a SHTF situation, we will probably only be able to be afoot with one rifle. So, you better pick one that can be adequate in both long and short situations. Therefore, comparing the PTR to the AK just doesn't make sense to me. Spend time debating the PTR and FAL if you have to.

Oh and another thing, I personally shoot berdan military surplus .308 ammo because it is the cheapest to stock up on. Therefore I don't care about the brass issue. If you ever have to go into battle, you're not going to be doing much reloading. For those of you who are keeping up on what is going on in our country and the world, you should know that our country is headed for economic disaster. If we ever have to go rogue, there will be very little reloading, and you will need a rifle that can perform in long and short situations. This is why I like the H&K style rifles.

Now with that said, maybe we should be debating on the ultimate all-around battle rifle, instead of comparing two weapons that are as different as the PTR and the AK-47.

I just bought 1.

A few years ago I had a CETME and a Federal Arms aluminum recievered rifles. They both got sacrificed for kids needs, but that's another issue. I was able to get some of my retirement money out before it disappeared and I purchased a PTR-91.
I may be starting another debate here but on the issue of 'recoil' I seem to remember the Fed Arms slappin the ever-luvin dog poop outa my fillings! I discovered that it was my technique. I was an AR-carrying cop and an M16 carrying Marine. I always put my nose right up on the charging handle. That carried over to the CETME and Fed Arms, I put my nose/cheek area right on the recoil plate. Coupla pounds of steel at full speed on that plate will... well slap the ever-luvin dog poop outa my fillings. Go figure!
Fast forward to present day. I have my PTR-91 and put a surplus full stock on it (I purchased mine with the A3 collapsible) with a small limbsaver recoil pad. Brothers & sisters I can go through a coupla boxes of radway-green with no trouble!
I also seem to remember reading an Small Arms Review article that said PTR had their chambers fluted with ten instead of twelve flutes.
Beat up brass is still an issue, as the roller lock system launches them things but I plan on practicing with milsurp FMJs and using my Hornady TAPS for live ops.
I really love shooting my PTR-91. I believe I made a good investment and this shooter is stayin with me!
Anyways, there's my opinion based on my personal experience.

PTR 91

I have the PTR 91, Springfield Armory Scout M1A, and a DSA FAL. I am planning on buying an AR10 in the near future.

They are all fine battle rifles and I would not hesitate going into combat with any of them. Reliable, accurate and hard hitting.

One advantage the FAL has over all of them, you can adjust the gas system so the empty case is not ejected, something to think about if you have to do sniper work with any of these rifles as the ejected brass could give your position away. Since I am now an armchair warrior it is a moot point at best.

best rifle

how a rifle recoils is different with each person,,also design of the rifle can change felt recoil.a M-1a has a strait wood stock,, the 91__ fn-fal series both have pistol grips,,i think the whole debate on recoil can partialy fixed by getting a rifle that fits you ,i have a H&K-91 that i bought back in 1978,,it was a real german H&K imported by saco.before H&K was bringing in there own.I put a H&K 21 machinegun stock on it and a DTA muzzle break on it,, recoil is almost none existant,
also the G3 the father of all this was designed to throw the brass a long way away,,so you wouldnt have a nice shiney pile next to your foxhole when fighting,

as a question on the PTR,
they are now selling a PTR_91PDW,,a 8.375 barrel..
i already own a H&K-51 sear gun..just thought a semi auto might be fun,,anyone read anything on this or any information would be very thankfully accepted..
