Sand & Grain

Please tell how to grain the metal I understand the sand part but do not have a clue when it comes to giving the metal a grain finish

If you're using sand cloth to polish a gun part, the tiny scratches left by the sand cloth ARE the grain.
Usually, you want the tiny scratches all running in the same direction.

As example, on a slide you want the tiny scratches running lengthwise of the slide.
The finer the grit of polishing material, the finer the grain.
