Hello,
I'm looking for somewhere to shoot something besides
paper, like cans, fruit, etc. There are plenty of
paper targets in the tacoma/olympia/puyallup area but
I don't know of any ranges where "alternative" targets
are allowed. I've heard that some folks just go off
into the national forest?? Is this allowed or recommended?
The nightmare would be having my guns confiscated for
something like that, sheesh. Any advice is welcome,
thanks...

W. WA shooting

I grew up shooting other stuff in W. WA, but things changed greatly in the late 1990's and I left in 1998. Right now, it's hard to find good areas to shoot in King County do to local ordinances on the discharge of firearms. In 1998, there was some decent shooting available in DNR lands in Pierce and Snohomish County.

It used to be the logging areas were okay, but now due to tree spiking enviros and inconsiderate shooters, many companies have put serious gates on private lands.

I currently reside in DC, have to keep my guns in VA and drive to W.Va to do any "plinking". Needless to say, while shooting in W. WA may be getting scarce, it's still a far cry from the nightmare of trying to plink on the eastern seaboard.
