Taurus Hi-Lite?
Does anyone have any hands on experience with the Taurus Model 856 Hy-Lite? I'm able to get one for a good price but, I can't find many reviews of it. Thanks for the help,

I own one. It's agreat little carry piece. It is not +P rated and I will not shoot +P pressure ammo in in.
I bought a case,500 rounds of Federal 125gr. regular pressure Nyclad which is one of the top non +P rounds if not the top one. Nyclad was first produced as a practice only round and then it was found out that it expanded and penetrated well enough to get the job done. No reason not to think that it won't do it now. Nothing's changed in the recipe for that round. There are 110gr. non+P rounds that work well through it as well. If you want something with a bit more power there are the Buffalo Bore standard pressure rounds. There's one in 158gr.LSWCHP guise that has the +P velocity without the +P pressure and the lead is very soft, yet does not lead up the barrel. It has dynamic opening like the Winchester, or better yet, the Remington +P versions. ) SKU: 20C/20 Standard Pressure Short Barrel Low Flash Heavy .38 Special Pistol and Handgun Ammo Standard Pressure Short Barrel Low Flash Heavy .38 Special Ammo - 158 gr. Soft Lead SWC-HC (850fps/M.E. 253 ft. lbs.) - 20 Round Box $26.66 Manufacturer: Buffalo Bore SKU: 20D/20 Standard Pressure Short Barrel Low Flash Heavy .38 Special Pistol and Handgun Ammo Standard Pressure Short Barrel Low Flash Heavy .38 Special Ammo - 150 gr. Hard Cast Wad Cutter (850fps/M.E. 241 ft. lbs.) - 20 Round Box $26.66 Manufacturer: Buffalo Bore SKU: 20E/20 Standard Pressure Short Barrel Low Flash Heavy .38 Special Pistol and Handgun Ammo Standard Pressure Short Barrel Low Flash Heavy .38 Special Ammo - 125gr. Jacketed Hollow Trigger pull is light and crisp. For me anyway and on my example. Holsters that fit the Taurus 85 fit my 856 Hy-lite. My holsters though are all OTW types. Recoil is snappy, but tolerable. |

Thanks for all of the info, it's much appreciated. I ended up buying the Hy-lite and shot it over the weekend. You're right, it's a great little gun. I put anything from 158 gr LRN to 110 gr Critical defense through it, no problems at all and recoil was manageable.

Happy to here your experience with it. Happy to be of service, too.
If you want a supply of non +P ammo that "will get the job done and well on the bad guys" there is this if you want it. http://www.smokewagongear.com/p-1926...nyclad-hp.aspx Makes a great practice round as well. That is the only place that seems to have Nyclad ammo and the price for it is much better than other online places I've been to recently or in the past. Nyclad is very hard to come by now days. If you need more info on Taurus 856s there is this. Check the "Judge and Other Taurus revolvers" board. You can do a search in that board as well. http://www.taurusarmed.net You can use it as a resource. |

Don Hume H721 O.T. and an old Uncle Mike's holster that fits the Taurus 85 and snub revolvers.
