140 grain XTP and Unique...?

Anyone ever use the 140 grain XTP with Unique? Any load data on line for this bullet/powder combination?

If you are talking about the Hornady 140 gr XTP in a .38 special, Hornady lists loads for Unique in the current manual. I didn't see Unique listed for .357 mag. loads.

That caliber and weapon was missing there, wasn't it. .357 magnum as the caliber and a S&W 686 4" and Marlin 16" lever action as the weapons.

In the Speer manual#13, they show 8.0 grs Unique as a max loading for their 140 gr HP. Velocity is 1185'ps out of a Model 19 with a 6" barrel. Starting load was 7.2 grs with velocity at 1086'ps. For the Marlin, this will be a weak load as the Unique will be expended before the bullet leaves the barrel. You would be better served using a slower powder like H110, 296, etc. But if you want to stay with one powder and one load, it will work. The 140s are a favorite bullet weight in my 357 mags.

Thanks Trapper, I had found a few recipes on the web and saw that 8 grains was max on Unique. I am running 7.7 grains with 158's right now so the 140 weight ones will be a nice change. I do realize that I will be under max on the rifle, powder wise, but I can have some hot rounds for it if needed for hunting. Same thing with the revolver, (1000) rounds from a pound of powder just makes more sense for the amount of shooting I do. And this load with 158's or 140's is not a wimpy one either, just not fully maxed out that other powders would do. Thanks everybody!

AA#9 and Blue Dot may be worth a try.
