.45 ACP Reloading Advise/Info

I'm new to the forum and fairly new to reloading and need input. I have some basic reloading supplies and have loaded several rifle cartridges. I'm going to load some .45 acp pistol rounds (mostly just target rounds) and would appreciate any input, tips, advise loading data, or what have you, that you guys could recomend.

Did you read the tutorial (see above - top line) on reloading 230 gr. 45 ACP rounds?

In my opinion, reloading the .45 ACP is about as easy as it gets for the reloader. This is except for the minor aggravatin of running into some brass with mixed large and small pistol primers.

Hi KCRaider21, I'm new to the forum too. But I've been loading 45ACP since 1985. I've loaded lots of recipes over the years. I've settled on just a few loadings after lots n lots of shooting. The two I use the most are: 200g Friendswood LSWC, 5.0g Win 231, CCI 500. And: 200g Speer (#4475) JSWC, 8.8g HS-6, CCI 500. Both loadings are in compliance with the Speer Loading Manual #14. Cartridge Overall Length (COL) are 1.23" for the lead; and 1.27" for the jacketed.

I use an RCBS press (I don't know the model - it was made in 1984) and dies. I also use a Lee Factory Crimp Die ("FCD"). I recently added the step of using the Lee FCD and it has worked wonders to reduce what few feeding and cycling problems I had.

I have found loading Jacketed bullets is much easier to get the crimp right. Lead and Plated seem to be a little harder to get them right. Both 185 grain JHP and 230 grain FMJ work well for me using WST powder.
