I suspect it was a SKS
One of our brother hand loaders sent me some 7.62 X 39 brass cases. Each case had a ding in the same place, about 1/4 inch below the neck. I'd be willing to bet they were shot from a SKS. Can I reload these dinged cases?

Yeah, just bell the mouth back out when de-priming. There should be a .30 caliber ball that holds the depriming pin that will push out any wrinkles.
Then, during bullet seating and crimping, any outwards expansion will be gotten rid of. I do this with .400corbon bottleneck pistol cases that get dinged when I step on them or they get abused during extraction. |

Yeah. that's an SKS. Straight line across the case about 3/4 the way up the body?
That'll fireform out when you shoot it. I've never had a problem. |

My SKS is not easy on brass, either. To keep life simpler, I remove the gas piston and use it as a straight pull bolt action. Also prevents brass-hunting. I've had no problems reloading the dented cases either.

"I'd be willing to bet they were shot from a SKS."
... or a Mini-30, they do the very same thing to brass. I agree with the advice given, it's not a problem. Resizing will get most of the ding out and firing will get the remainder out. |
