Any info on my new old gun??

My late grandfather left me a couple of guns when he passed away. The one that I have questions about is a .410 single barrel folding shotgun made by harrington and richardson arms co. The serial number begins with an "A". I previously read that all folding guns from the same manufacturer began with an "F". I know for sure that it is pre-1940. I would like to find out how old the gun is and possibly the value...If anyone could help it would be much appreciated. I also have an octogon barrell pump .22 that I would like info on too. I dont have the make or model for that with me. Thanks guys

The H&R FOLDING MODEL was made in two frame sizes, Large and small and two variations of each. 1st Variation circa 1925 to 1931 with extractor and 2nd Variation 1931 - 1942 with auto ejector.
Serial numbering seems to be somewhat inconsistent. My small frame .410 which is a fairly early 1st Var. has no letter prefix. My large frame which seems to be a mid range 2nd Variation has an 'F' prefix to the serial number.
I also have several HAMMERLESS models which used an 'H' as a model designator. The latest one was made in 1941 and has a 'B' prefix before a larger 'H' followed by the numerical part of the s/n. It is entirely possible and probable that H&R would put their date designator (starting in 1940 with 'A') before the serial number, either in conjunction with the model designator or not.
Value will depend upon condition, but this model is not all that often seen for sale. Here's what I put in the 32nd Ed. of "THE BLUE BOOK..." by Fjestad for average RETAIL values:
100% (NIB) - $375; 98% - $325; 95% -$285; 90% - $235; 80% - $210; 70% - $175; 60% - $150. There is collector interest in this model.

My grandfarther left it to me. Im trying to find out any information I can.

It was made in 1940.

a while back I ran across a .410 folder on Gun Broker that peaked my interest, I didn't end up getting that one, but later got myself an H&R folding 12 ga... was still on the lookout for a .410 for MRS. MAGNUM... later I found a NIB CZ folding Cotton Tail with a factory defect ( probably why it was still NIB ) my local retired smith buddy fixed it & I gave that to my wife ( her family was Cezch, so it had some good instant sentimental value being a CZ )

I really like the H&R design, as the fore end is notched for the trigger guard, & they fold into a much tighter package...

I did some custom work on my 12 ga shortening the barrel to make it more compact, adding a polychoke to make it more versitile, & adding a fiber optic front bead... now it's kinda like one of those "pocket fisherman" I can keep it in the truck, & can hunt from ducks to deer with it...

a pic of mine before I cut the barrel to the length of the stock ( after adding a good recoil pad )

this is the gun I 1st saw, that peaked my interest in folders...

Yes those pieces are part of my H&R Collection. Not many of the FOLDERS around anymore.

Years ago (40-50) Berretta marketed a folder they called a Folding Companion. Don't know if they were the manufacturer or had them subbed out. Neat looking pieces.
