250-3000 Savage loads
I getting ready to start reloading for a savage 99 light weight model in 250-3000 caliber.
Anyone have any pet loads they would care to share? I would prefer loads using IMR powders as I have several different IMR powders on hand. I hunted with a Ruger 77 in that caliber for many years. I used a max load of 4895 and my particular gun liked 100 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips. Worked great for me. The modest velocity was perfect for that bullet.

NO PROPELLENT was faster nor more accurate in both of my Savage 99 250-3000 guns, a rifle and a carbine, than H414. Nothing else was even close matter of fact.

Thanks for the info.
I don't have any 4895 on hand but I can get some, I do have some H414. I have plenty of factory ammo loaded with 100 grain bullets I can use for deer hunting. I was thinking of trying some 85 grain ballistic tips for coyote loads. I been shooting the old rifle using iron sights and been doing quite well with it. It also has a Lyman tang sight that I've been figuring out for longer yardage shots. It's unbelieveable how mild the recoil is in this rifle, I'm really enjoying shooting it. H380 or H414/WW760 are what I use. Work up as usual.

IMR3031, it's the best powder for the 87 and 100 gr bullets in the 250 Savage.

Thanks for the additional info, I do have H380, H414, WW760 and IMR 3031 in my powder inventory.

I just received my shippment of new 250 Savage brass so now it's time to start getting into some serious reloading.
One of my reloading manuals seems to like IMR 4320 with lighter weight bullets like the 85 grain ballistic tips. I have plenty of IMR 4320 as I load that in my 223s and 22-250. I'm not planning on getting max speed out of my loads, I want to preserve the barrel on this old rifle as much as I can. With the lighter 85 grain bullet some of my manuals say 3200fps but I plan on 2850 to 2900 fps, that should do everything I need to do with the old rifle.
