Any one out there with a newer Nosler book?

My old book does not have any data for the 55 gr Ballistic Tip in the .223 Remington. Can someone please look up the suggested C.O.A.L. for this bullet.

The Nosler manual #6 does NOT list COLs for individual bullets in a cartridge. The drawing showes MAX COL as 2.260", but that does not mean that there pressure tested cartridges were all loaded to that length.

The best COL for accuracy in your gun would probably be different from their COL anyway.

Their manual does give percentage "load density" for their min and max loads, so you could use that and measurements of the water capacity of your own sized cases to get a COL that would give you the same powder space as their loads. Not sure what good that would really do for your reloading efforts, though.

Thanks. The reason I asked is that with the Hornady 55gr SP bullets, I get best accuracy seated to 2.200". (I have tested them from 2.200" to 2.260") I am trying some Nosler BT's and they are longer than the Hornadys. I wanted to seat them at 2.200" but wanted a suggested max COAL just to get an idea what the differance was.

Hornady 55 gr. plastic tipped bullets are recommended to be seated to
2.250". They are longer than FMJ 55 grain bullets also. I'd guess that they would do best seated longer than 2.200" which may be too short for your plastic tipped bullets. Don't know why Nosler doesn't give a recommended overall length?

Ramshot lists 2.260, Accurate list 2.260, Nosler recommends you find the lands and seat .015 to .030 off with at least one bullet diameter seated into the case.
Nosler #6 page 43.

Start long and work the load up, then reduce OAL to find sweet spot, remember, seating deeper will reduce pressures as the closer to the lands the higher the pressure.

I was under the impression that the further the bullet base protruded into the case the higher the pressure also? I'm sire there's a comfy medium,but, the bullet takes up space also creating a smaller burn chamber. Correct?

In straight walled pistol rounds, Yes, in bottle necked rifle rounds, not so much.

Tried some tonight at 2.200" tonight. Not so good. >1" at 100yrds.

Going to start at the other end. Loading some at 2.250" as we speak.

I used the same load as worked well with the Hornady 55gr sp. 25.3gr H335 and CCI 450 primers.

I will post again.
