good truck gun?

looking at a gun to keep in the truck when im drivin around the property. was looking at several guns but one i like is the henry ar7 because all the parts fit into the stock so i could put it in the truck without taking up much room at all. only thing is i would like more than a .22 but i may just have 2 settle. i really like the idea tho

I have a truck, and several guns, but no dedicated "truck gun". If I was to decide to keep a gun in my truck the majority of the time it would be my NEF Handi in 7mm 08 that I have cut to 16 1/2" and recrowned. I made that Handi the epitomy of "handy"......

I have a mini14 as a truck gun and it has served well. It is accurate enough to serve my purpose and it will go bang as long as I am willing to feed it..out to a 100yds, it is a critter gitter. It is stainless/synthetic so it is none the worse for wear. I bought it used over 20yrs ago and it has filled a niche roll and overall, it is about ideal for my truck gun use.

nope. hate it haha almost as bad as commifornia. was looking at some bullpup designs but none that are practical just tacticool.. how does that 7mm 08 shoot with the shortened barrel?

It's plenty accurate but takes some getting used to off hand since there is so little weight up front. It usually wears a Sightron SII 2.5 x 10 x 32.

Hi Point Carbine, Marlin Camp Carbine, Smaller Winchester or Marlin lever action, or any of the compact Ruger M77 series like the M77/44 (44mag bolt action carbine) would be my suggestions. If you are really on a budget you could get a mosin nagant and shorten the barrel way up. The sks above mentioned is also a good cheap alternative.

Find an older, already beat up Rossi 92 "Trapper" (16" round barrel)--in .357, .44 Mag or .45 Colt. Short and handy, better action than the Win 94 in the pistol rounds if you're looking at those too.

44mag lever gun, a short one.
Kel-Tec sub200- very compact
One of those range hand lever pistol dealys- made for what you're talking about

Or something a little different and cheap, an AK pistol.

If I had some property, I'd give serious consideration to:

1. SKS. Still fairly cheap to buy, and cheap to feed.

2. Lever action in a handgun cartridge.

3. A bolt-action or semi-auto .22

4. A Moisin Nagant or Lee Enfield surplus miliary rifle.

5. A shotgun.

+1 to all these points.

But if I had to chose, I would get a revolver and lever in .357 so you could leave a box or two of ammo and feed both guns.

*or maybe the Kel-Tec SU2000. A folding .223 that fits in a backpack makes it very discreet*

I'd take a serious look at the NEF Handi-Rifle, the Hi-Point 9mm carbine, and a simple 12 gauge shotgun. I have all 3, use them all for general duty and "truck guns." They're inexpensive, reliable, and they hit harder than a .22. Now, depending on where your property is, the .22 may be ideal. I see the mosin on the list as well, and an M44 would be a great little truck gun, but they're a little loud for me to just pop off rounds at jack rabbits. The handi I have is a .45-70, but I use 350 grain cast bullets sitting on 11.5 grains of Unique. Out to 100 yards, they're hard hitters, and they don't blow your hair back.

Yeah but a very expensive one. I'd recommend a used Mini (either the 14 or 30) too, but that fold up Kel Tec IN .223 might fit the bill nicely if space is at a premium.

I'd suggest a lever gun in whatever caliber you care for. Or maybe the Kel tec SU16. Light handy, folds up for storage, uses AR mags.

You should be able to find one for bout $300 in .223 (listed as .223 but right on the box it says 5.56), 5.45 or 7.62x39.

Short, light, inexpensive, reliable, powerful, accurate enough to be a truck gun.

Regarding the winchester 30/30.....light, handy, accurate (not kidding!) and you can find one for around $250 used....and ammo in any country gas station. And more potent on critters (that is what I carry a truck gun for) than a .22, SKS, etc.

the closest thing to an AR7 in a center fire caliber is the kel-tec line of .223 rifles that fold up. seems to be popular and reliable enough.

aside from that I'd need some more criteria from you to make a decent suggestion.
