I miss the days when I could go to the store on a saturday and spend 25.00 for 1,000 rnds of .22 lr, and shoot it all off in one day without a worry.

They may say all the new gun owners are the reason behind the shortages, but who among us has not picked up 2 boxes of ammo lately, when one would do?

I know a fellow who brags that he has hoarded up more .22LR than he will ever shoot. That sort of thing helps nobody and hurts those looking to start out kids with a .22.

This crisis or shortage, whatever we call it, has made one thing apparent to the liberals who want our guns. When things got tight we all pretty much turned against each other.

Well, I've sold some of my .22LR to friends who couldn't find any.

They kept a box or two, like their Dad did (like my Dad did), "knowing" they could pick up more to go shooting anytime, anywhere.

When the panic hit, they got worried when they not only couldn't believe the prices, but the shelves were bare.

I started buying .22 bulk back in the early '80's, 5000 rds CCI MiniMags for $105 was the norm and I shot a bunch of it!
I still have 4-5,000 Winchester Wildcat & Super-X from the early '90's that Roses would put on sale, 0.99/box Wildcat & 1.09/box Super-X.

Point here is, I got in the habit of having plenty of .22LR on hand, if I wanted to go shoot, I grabbed 500rds and went.

So I've always picked up bulk on sale, even if it wasn't a preferred brand.

I sold the Remington Golden Bullets etc to my friends that had little or none AT WHAT I PAID, better that they have some, a rifle sucks as a club.

I ain't gouging nobody!

Heck, I still call my mechanic when I find any kind of ammo deal.

Yesterday, I found Remington 9mm 115gr FMJ @ $128/500 OTD.
Called him up, 6 boxes to him, 4 into my safe, for barter, swapping, etc.

He can't get out to get it when it's available and ALWAYS treats me right if I need quick service / better price.

PS read Alas Babylon, One Second After, type books. Common idea in all is the .22LR as a replacement for currency when the gov currency is worthless.

For a hunting round, .22LR is gonna keep you fed when times are tough and food is scarce.

Just received my 420 rds of Federal 40gr 5.56 NATO in ammo can from PSA for $169.00 + $15 shipping. Took nearly two weeks, but I have 'em now! Not sure how great the price was, but I think for today's standards, not too bad.

Not really the same thing. Telling the difference between "planning" for an N year-long shortage and hoarding is getting harder and harder. Here in FL we have no shortage of retirees willing to line up at WalMart at 7AM every morning. It's their right to do so, but still a little frustrating.

Gun show in San Antonio:

There are no gun shortages. Everything is available. Mags are available.

Ammo - most stuff available but dealers are more expensive than big box stuffs for central fire but I did find a good deal on some Hornady 9mm.

There was a good of 22 LR but overly expensive - 70 to 90 bucks per brick.

Some interesting older guns that were fun but not in my budget.

Walked into Academy Sports this afternoon to pick up some 40 and 45 ammo. My jaw nearly hit the floor when I saw they had .22lr and .22wmr in stock. The .22lr was Winchester Super-X and CCI Green Tag in 100 round boxes. I bought two boxes of the CCI for $15.99 each, which I thought was a reasonable price for CCI ammo. This is the first time in well over a year that I have seen 22lr in stock at any of the big box type stores.

After paying about 10 cents a round all year through mail order I have stopped buying 22s and only picked up a couple 1000 but enuf for me.

If you use ammoseek regularly you will find it, the idea that it will cost 5cents a round again is fantasy. No 2 dollar gas, no 5 dollar smokes, no 300 dollar gold

I was in my local Walmart yesterday. Curiosity took me to the ammo lock up. Pretty sparse. Some oddball rifle ammo and some WWB in 45 and 40. No 22 LR.

Able ammo in Huntsville tx has a lot of hard to find stuff right now. A lot of the hard to find powders like h110, lilgun and a lot others. Plus eley tac22 for 12.99/50 ammo. 380 ammo which a lot people say they can't find. They do have online ordering or can call them for prices and stock.

Haven't seen .22 LR locally in a long time. While visiting in Fla. saw bricks of it at a gun shop called Shoot Strait. Bought a brick of 500 rds. Made in Germany, RWS Target Rifle, for $85.00. I asked if it was match grade & the sales person said no. It was the only type they had so I bought 1 box. Meanwhile if I could buy it in NY there'd be a back ground check with a $10 - $20 fee, and a permanent record of the sale. I don't plan on ever buying ammo in NY again.

That's really high. You should have gotten 3 boxes for that price.

Now I don't feel so bad about the $30 bricks of 22lr in my area. Still won't pay that much but at least it's better than $85.

Passing by Cabelas, I dropped in and hit it when they were putting out 525 bricks of Federal for 21.99. One to a customer. Then continued on my way.

I've gotten two bricks by just checking on other shopping trips and that's enough for quite awhile.

Plenty of other ammo. Plenty of guns at Cabelas prices.

Unless you are still in your cabin in the woods, stocking up on a horde of 22 - no more crisis around here in TX.

So far i havent had too much problems with just using cabela's as my 22LR source. havent paid over 30$ for a box of 500. but then again i use their online store and its free ship to store.
But trying to find any 44 mag... sigh.. no one has any up here.

I live in NY and the closest Cabelas is in Conn. which won't sell ammo to out of staters. Plus we can no longer buy ammo on line. We are soooo screwed here in NY.

I feel for you, Nick. I escaped Illinois 18 years ago and have not looked back. My mom and sisters still live in that Communist state. If it weren't for them, I might never go back - except for required work trips. I spent 16 years in Missouri, which was way better than Illinois, but way less Second Amendment friendly than my adopted state of Tennessee. Good luck, friend.

That'd be my kind of local LGS/cop shop. I was on the road most of the day and stopped in on my way back and they had no 9mm range ammo nor any 22.

And when I enquired if they are a Sig dealer participating in the BOGO program, which they are, they're only selling guns to LE/'first responders'.

Local cop shop in Austin, TX had lots of ammo - except 22 LR. Some quirks - they wouldn't sell Hornady Critical Duty to non-officers. However, you could just go the sporting goods stores and find lots.

Well stocked with guns and good magazine prices - Glock mags for 21.99 for example.

I just bought my first 22 LR gun (a Browning Buck Mark) and up to now have been disappointed in not finding ammo at reasonable prices.

Then, in the past week I found:

• 500 rounds of Remington Thunderbolt for $21.99 on Cabelas website
• 2 x 500 rnds CCI Blazer for $24.99 on Cabelas website
• 500 rnds CCI Blazer for $24.99 in-store in Cabelas (that was like some kind of Black Friday event as word rippled through the store that they had put out boxes of 22 ammo)
• 500 rnds Federal Premium Champion Target 40-gr on Gander Mountain's website for $24.90

I'm really not sure if these are decent quality, but I'm very pleased to be paying five cents per round and not having to pay shipping since I'm lucky enough to live near both a Cabela's store and a Gander Mountain store. Although all of these sold out pretty quickly, I noticed the $60 asking price for bricks of CCI blazer on armslist seem to be sitting for longer and longer. Perhaps this is a sign of some sanity coming back to the market. Regardless, I have 2500 rounds to play with, which should keep me occupied for a while.

I think some ammo availability is getting better.
Starting to see 22 LR still on the shelf 1 hour after some of the big sporting goods stores open.
Today, after not having a lot of luck in the past, I picked up 600 (6-100 round boxes) of Winchester Super X 37 gr HPs @ $12.99 each.
I swore I'd not go over 10 cents a round but will be shooting 400 + rounds Sat. and Sunday. Had to break the rules. Not too happy with the price but at least I can shoot now.
.223 is on all the shelves, still 'bout .50 cents per round for 55 gr FMJ PMC quality stuff. Patience, patience, patience.

This is what I like about some people... The fellow in front of me at the ammo counter took a look at the 22 lr ammo and decided he did not want hollow points, so he handed back the box to the clerk.
The clerk told me I could buy three 100 round boxes. Good limit.
The guy that put the ammo back said to me "Do you need more?"
I said "yes".
He grabbed three boxes, paid for them and then I paid him outside.
Nice guy. Anyway, most of it will all be down range by Sunday afternoon.
