Single Stack 9MM Recommendation

I am looking for a good single stack 9mm recommendation for CC. I currently have a Ruger SR9C and love it, but there are times it is too bulky to conceal. I have been considering the LC9, but have been hearing of the light strike issues. Also when to the LGS to look at them and they actually have their rental in with Ruger right now getting repaired (while the rentals see a lot of abuse, still not a good sign). I also like what I see on the MP Shield but the current waiting list locally is 30 deep.

Thanks,
Ryan

I would also be interested.

I've read an article on the Beretta Nano, but I've never even seen one. They don't seem to be discussed much.

Isn't the S&W Shield a 9mm single stack?

That should be a sound choice, too.

I also thought about the CZ Rami range, but I think they are all double stack

Sort of. What I read is that it's shaped so that rounds are slightly staggered in the magazine.

Others that I'm aware of: KT PF9, Ruger LC9, Firestar. Probably the bulk of the current micro-9s are single stack.

Went to Cabela's to look at a Nano, none to be found. Ended up with a PX4 sub compact. Keeping my good eye on a Nano though.

Kahr P9, TP9, K9 or T9. All slim, easy to conceal.

Have had no problems with my LC9.
I have it on right now in a Crossbreed Mini Tuk.

Sig 239 is good. Plouffedaddy has a nice review on the P6 ( think 225). I've been using them interchangeably.

I found the bore axis of the Nano to be very high in relation to the grip.

Never shot one, but looked like it'd be pretty "flippy."

I liked the Kimber Solo, but found the trigger to be mushy.... I also heard it was not terribly reliable.

I have not found anything as nice as my EMP ...... the sR9c is the closest. Both are larger than what you are looking for.

Before you make a final decision check out an HK P2000 SK. Very accurate, reliable and worth a few extra shekels IMO.

I'd also consider a Walther PPS.

Both handguns have great reputations, been on the market for years and have been totally vetted.

Good luck.

For pocket carry the CM9s great. Mine's never had a failure of any kind.

For IWB, the Shield is the way to go. As stated above it's not a true single stack but it's very thin and carries well. 0 malfunctions in this one as well to date.

Another vote for the Sig 239 .....

http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProductDetails/p239.aspx

....or a 1911 ..maybe a 4" gun in an alloy frame in 9mm ..( like the Kimber Tactical Pro II model ) is a nice gun for the money - and easy to carry and small - almost as small as the Sig 239 ...

Kahr CW9... Mine's been flawless... Accurate... Relatively soft shooter.

The Kahr PM9 is hard to beat. Smooooooth trigger, very little recoil , and accurate. Try one.

Funny one one person has mentioned a 1911 so far. Plenty of good 1911 9mm pistols out there. What's nice about the 1911 is that it's thin and easy to carry.

Thanks everyone, keep them comming. One thing I will say, I tried the Nano, the one thing I did not like was the "lack" of an external slide release. Small thing, but drove me nuts.

Also the 1911 was mentioned, what models have you had good luck with in 9MM?

Thanks,
Ryan

Consider a Sig P290. Smaller than a LCR and a little bigger than the LCCP. Big enough to shoot comfortably. (It is actually fun to shoot) Mine has had zero issues. It is about as small as you would want a 9mm (IMHO) but heavy enough to control recoil , but it is in no way too heavy in my opinion. Feels very good in hand. Also comes with night sights, a (removable) laser and an extra 8rd mag all for under $500

These photos are with a Ruger LCR (.22lr but same size as a 357 LCR) and a Tuarus TCP 738 380acp.

It is a little bit smaller than the LCR and a little bit bigger than the TCP. The only major differences are the Sig is heavier than both and both are quite a bit wider than the TCP. But keep inmind the TCP is a 380.

This one is interesting to me. The TCP is on top of the P290

I already mentioned my EMP, which is the smallest 9mm 1911.

If anything, it is too small- I'd like another 1" of barrel, myself. The gun fits my hands well, though, and the trigger is so very nice.

Are you looking for something to belt carry or pocket carry?

For easy IWB concealability and easy, accurate shootability, both the Walther PPS and Kahr MK9 are excellent.

Neither is ideal for pocket carry, IMO, the PPS due to height and length, the Kahr due to weight.

But both disappear with an IWB rig and a comfortably loose t-shirt.

For IWB I like the budget Kahr CW9.

If you want a pocket carry the CM9 fits the bill nicely.

Another great choice if you can find one for IWB is the S&W 3913/3914.
