Sounds like a decent deal if you want to step up to the 308 platform.

Thats a killer deal dude.. an AR doesnt cost much more than $600 to build and a .308 is pretty much that just for the complete lower reciever... thats a no brainer decision. Not to mention, the .308 has way much more stopping power and you can reach out waaay further.. DO IT!!!

Hard to say without seeing the guns and knowing specifics about each, but sounds fair (for you, not him) value wise. Again, pics or additional info would really help to know for sure.
I have a LR-308 and love it, but I would urge you to think hard before going to a 308 platform. Is it what you need? Will it suit your intended use better that your AR-15? Maybe you have multiple AR-15s and need variety? LR-308 pros: better for longer range, better for large game animals, stronger caliber, fights wind better, and for pretending you're a Delta sniper. AR-15 pros: much lighter generally (easier to cart around and run with), larger capacity, cheaper bullets, better for close-mid range quarters, better for varmits, and pretending you're a Navy SEAL raiding Osama's hideout. I bought an LR-308 because I wanted a home defense gun that I could use to hunt deer. If big game hunting hadn't been part of my expected use I would have opted for an AR-15. |

Which LR-308 variant is it? I am shooting an LR-308B (=18" bull barrel, railed gas block, and slick side). Other than the weight, it's a great rifle. |

It's bigger, heavier and more expensive to shoot.
And a lot more fun! If you want to step up to the 7.62 AR, go for it. I would keep at least one 5.56 AR. |

If you plan on hunting with it I say go for it, it'd make a great pig gun. If you're just punching holes in cans and paper you might want to stick with your 5.56 for ammo cost.
That said I got very bored with the 5.56/.223 at the range so I sold my ACR to fund a 1911 and an EBR stock for my M1A. If a bigger round puts a bigger smile on your face then make the trade.

AR 10 is valued at about 50% more than AR 15 in similar condition.
Whether you need/want a .308 is your choice. |

As long as you have another ar15 I say do it.I would love to have one even though I wouldn't shoot it often. It just makes you feel warm and cozy inside knowing you have the big boy.
