Handloading 12 Ga Saboted Slugs
Recently purchased a scoped, rifled barrel for my Mossberg 500. Was wondering about what is required to load saboted slugs. Where to get what components? Can you use once fired shot hulls? I've many years experience loading metallic cartridges but zero loading shotshells. I looked at www.slugsrus.com, looks like it would be cheaper just to buy loaded rounds.

These people have anything you could ever need to load shotgun. Including load manuals for slugs and sabots. A good selection of sabots complete with wads and info on how they're loaded.

First you need a Mec 600jr press. You can use once fired shot hulls, if there is a recipe/load data for them. Cast your own or buy Lee slugs. http://www.leeprecision.com/cgi-data.../SM%203529.pdf

I have no hands-on experience, but the people I know who tried said it was hard to get them consistent and they could never reproduce the accuracy of factory slugs. YMMV.

If the idea is to save money, first try various rifled slugs, the kind used in smooth barrels.
Some work remarkably well in rifled barrels. Lots cheaper than sabots, too.

It is possible. I would start by buying their manual.
