How to quote people in forums?

When someone posts in the forums and you want to reply back and quote them how do you do that?

How do you quote them if you just want to quote a sentence out of their paragraph?

Thanks, Hellbent

Unless you are a computer expert, with great difficulty, the set up is much
more complicated than most other forums in regard to quotes.

Would you prefer the real answer?

Highlight the text you want to quote. Copy it to your clipboard. Now look at the row of icons above the TFL post text box. Do you see the character that looks like a comic book quote? (third in from right) Left click on it. Now paste the quoted text from your clipboard into your new post. Got it!

Copy the quote to your clip board, then click the quote icon on the reply tool bar. Then paste the quote between the two sets of brackets [QUOTE]here[QUOTE] Then in first brackets put = behind quote, then the name of the person you are quoting like this [QUOTE=Hellbent11]

Why don't they just add a "quote post" button under every post, like most other fourms?

Pretty much the same as above but different none the less.

I hit reply, scroll down and highlight and copy the text then paste it where I want it into the reply. I highlight the pasted text and hit the "quote" button above your text box.

Because it creates more noise than signal. People quote huge sections of text from the post directly above and add a one or two word comment. It takes up space and ruins the natural flow of the discussion when this happens.

Getting back to the original question...

If nothing happens when you click on the "quote" icon (the little text balloon) above the text area, your browser may have Javascript disabled. (If your browser has Javascript disabled, none of those what-to-do-with-the-text icons will work.) How you enable it depends on what browser you're using -- read your browser's online help, or look under a menu item such as "options"... or (shameless plug for free software here) switch to Firefox, which makes it really simple.
