Patterned My Turkey Rig

I think I'm good.

Mossberg 835
20 inch barrel
Hevishot Choke
Hevi-13 3 1/2 inch number 7
40 yards
285 in 10 inches

Just for fun I tacked up a Primos turkey head target and gave it a blast at 40. Centered it pretty well. 34 pellets in head or neck "BONE". If you count every pellet that drew blood it was in the 80's.

Can't wait to conduct a field test on a gobblers head.

LOL! Yeah, they ain't cheap but even if you limit out here in Alabama that's still only 25 bucks. A tank of gas for my truck costs 3 times as much.

it is a nice pattern but why did you choose 7 shot over a larger shot size?
and why heavishot is lead shot restricted where you hunt?

I think H-shot is denser than lead so a 7 is going to hit harder at long distance than a lead 7 1/2 pellet... Now add the additional pellets and you have a cloud of death raining down on that ground scratcher...

why

Hevi shot, or space shot as I call it, is harder and denser than lead. That means tighter patterns, greater penetration, ie, increased range to a degree, maybe 10-15 yds I'm guessing.

Sinse the tungsten based shot are denser than lead, a #7 pellet will weigh about what a lead 6 (thats a guess) would weigh. So the pellet count can stay high adding to denser patterns.

There's no enviro issue, yet! But it takes a lot of green to buy them $20-25 bucks per 5. (or more). Lead works fine for me, at the usual ranges.

Five bucks a shot on an animal that could hurt me, yeah I'd pay it. But an old gobbler, .....I'll let him get closer.

To each his own, good luck to all this spring, I'm scouting like a mad man..
