Ejector needs tuning?

I finally got to the range to try out my new Les Baer Monolith. While the gun is super accurate, the brass keeps smacking me in the forehead. It is also dinging the ejection port. I have a Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special that throws them back and to the right like I believe it should. Should I just send it back for them to tune or is it something simple? Thanks!

Probably the ejector. Find someone who knows what to do with it.

Please check the extractor tension before you pay anybody for anything.
If it is less than say 20oz then increase it 5 or 6 more if it gets better then
a little more.piece of cake

Cool deal. Thanks for the tips. I will check the extractor first.

I called Les Baer the other day to describe the issues I was having with my Monolith Heavyweight. After describing the issue to the lady who answered the phone, she asked me to hold for a moment and transferred the call. Much to my surprise, the person who answered said "Hello. This is Les.". I heard that their service is incredble, but I must say that I was very surprised to get the owner of the company on the line.

After listening to my description of the problem, he asked me what type of ammo I was using and how many rounds I had through the gun. He told me that Winchester White Box is typically loaded pretty light and that more powerful cartridges would not have that problem. He then told me the gun would loosen up after another couple hundred rounds. He was very nice to deal with and I like that he took the time to answer a concern about one of his products.

While Les Baer guns aren't cheap, I will say they are worth what they charge.

more powerful

That's interesting, did Mr.Baer indicate what to shoot instead and how many
more rounds before it will be in working order?
Standard ammunition should cycle fine through your pistol, getting bopped
topside of the head by empty shells is an extractor issue as a general rule.
Were you able to measure its tension in your firearm and if so then what was it?

Hi Polyphemus,

Mr. Baer told me the gun should smoothe out after about 250 rounds. Les Baer guns are built very tight and need a break in period. He told me that they usually shoot around 80 rounds out of them at the factory for testing. He mentioned that the Winchester White box stuff is loaded pretty light but did not specify what other brands of ammo I should use.

I do not have the tools to test the extraction tension so I could not do that yet. I figured I'd call the manufacturer first and follow their suggestions. I will certainly call them back if I keep getting nailed in the forehead with casings after the break in period.

The only thing I would consider doing to the gun is have a fiber optic front sight put on since it is hard to see the black on black. I will keep you guys up to date on how things progress. Thanks for all of the advice!

tools

No tools are needed for that.
I use a small hardware bag and spent bullets as weights.
Hang the weighted bag from a shell with a strong thread,(loose you don't
want it to wrench out) this is not an exact science really, close enough works
fine you want 26,27oz or thereabouts. If your extractor comes out without
resistance you don't have enough tension. Then adjust it by placing it in a vise
with padded jaws it should be hard to bend (it is supposed to) but it is
doable just be patient. The youtube videos are a collection of balderdash.
It's your piece,you fix it.
