Has a movie ever made you want to buy a certain firearm?
My wife and I watched the movie about Ernest Hemingway a couple of days ago (the one where you get nice views of Nicole Kidman's assets). That got me curious about Hemingway so I did some Googling and found out that he shot himself with a Boss shotgun. I'd never heard of Boss, so I started researching them. Dang, I'd sure love to have one. The only problem is that I don't have a spare $75,000 laying around to plunk down on one. Oh well, I can still dream.

Never bought one yet, but movies have made me drool,,,
Dirty Harry made me want a Model 29.
The Unforgiven made me want a Schofield. Lethal Weapon made me want a Beretta 92F. The Shadow made me want an H&R Handi Gun. Dr. No made me want a tiny Beretta. From Russia With Love made me want an Armalite AR-7. Zulu made me want a Webley revolver of any ilk. Every cowboy movie made me want a Colt Peacemaker. And the list could go on and on. Interestingly enough though,,, I've never purchased any of these guns. I do own a S&W Model 629,,, But it was a gift from a dear friend. Aarond .

Have to get real here.
Yep one movie The Good Bad And the Ugly. Those Navys and Remingtons and especially that Cattleman's carbine. I wouldn't turn any down if offered that's for sure. Last edited by Sure Shot Mc Gee; June 12, 2012 at 06:59 PM. Reason: tweaking a little |

movie
YES! "THE HIRED HAND" . Peter Fonda starred and directed it. Warren Oates was his Riding buddy. In the movie, Oates carried an old Navy B/P and Fonda carried a Peacemaker. I have it on DVD, and Fonda gives a prologue in which he wanted to protray the west as it was in the 1880's. There are Walkers, multi-barreled derringers, and all types of period correct rifles and shotguns. It was the first "Period Correct" western I ever saw and really started me on my six gun path. I believe you can still rent it, as it became something of a cult classic. It pulls no punches and the sound- track is amazing. The music was released on a CD years ago, which I also got. Give it a look! It came out in 1971. In the final shoot-out scene, everybody misses their targets except for a couple luck shots, and the hero , well I won't ruin it for you should you decide to watch it.

Every time I see a Lethal Weapon movie it makes me want a Beretta 92..then I remember the trigger.
Underworld really made me want a H&K USP-Match though, now if only I could find one for less than an arm and both legs. |

Watching NCIS gave me the strange urge to buy a Sig P228.
EDIT: Here's a related question. Who's bought a gun because of the TV show or movie that made them want it? I haven't yet... |

Maybe only the famous line in that rediculous movie "Overboard": "...It is a Weatherby. I have many of them."

"The ghost and the Darkness" still makes me want to buy a Howdah (or tiger) pistol.
I just can't seem to find an over/under BP version for a price I can afford

An awful lot of movies have sold a lot of guns. All the westerns made from the 1920's on sold a lot of leverguns and SA revolvers even though almost none are period correct for the movies. The "A Team" sold lots of Mini -14's.
For me personally Tom Selleck in Magnum PI influenced me to get into 1911's more than any other movie or TV program. |

"Face Off" made me want a matching pair of gold 1911s.

If, let me say that again, IF it would work as it does in the movie, I might be tempted to pick up a copy of Jesse Ventura's mini gun from the movie "Predator".
I have some stubborn brush to clear along my back fence and his gun seems to do that very well.

Kinda backwards
When I was in Genoa Italy years back I picked up a SPAS12 (pre "I'll be Back"). Total jamomatic POS, when the movie came out I was able to sell it at a gun shop in Norfolk for about 5X what it cost me.
EDIT: I was also able to get t cheaper than what he was selling it for, no uniform, paid U.S. cash and my Nonna lived about 20 miles north so my Italians not that bad.

The Chuck Norris movie "Invasion USA" got me wanting a .45 ACP (American Handgunner and Colt got me wanting a SS GM 1911 afterwards ,which I still have). The latest Zombie craze (not the one in Miami) got me thinking if the SHTF I'd be better served by a magazine fed rifle so I got an AR. Dirty Harry got me wanting a S&W 29 .44 magnum but years later I got a 629. Sold it, but now have another that's not going anywhere.

'Zulu' got to me for the Martini-Henry, took me 35 years to get one.
'Sergeant York' for a Springfield 1903. (I know it should have been a P17). 'The Naked Runner' for a Mauser C96 and stock. That took me 40 years ! 'Lawrence of Arabia' for the Webley pistol. |

Dirty Harry Model 29. Every time I thought I had enough money a new Harry movie came out and jacked the price up.
Quigley down under a sharps. Jeremiah Johnson a "Hawken rifle 50 caliber or better." Cold Mountain a LeMatte revolver. The large smooth bore barrel and nine shots intrigued me. Those are my top 4. In reality just about every realistic gun movie I ever saw has made me drool. |

Not consciously, but once upon a time I made a list of "guns to buy before I die." My wife took one look at the list and made the observation that every gun on my list featured prominently in my favorite movie.
Sadly, long before I could complete said purchases, many of the guns in question were made illegal in my neck of the woods. |
