Question. Modify Smith M&P?

Smith M&P .40 full size. I have 2 of these + a Shield .40 & feel they are all very good pistols right out of the box, no complaints.
The question is about a cosmetic change only.
I've seen & read about Glock slides stripped of the black coating to reveal a silver finish. Some Glock owners do that with various chemicles including vinegar.
I have 2 Glocks, one has a silver slide but a Glock amorer examined the pistol (G-27) & pronounced the slide had been coated silver, not stripped.
Was wondering if the Smith M&P slide could be stripped of the black coating to reveal the s.s. underneath?
This is more a curious desire to have something different for no pratical reason at all.

I'll be honest, I don't know much about stripping the coating from a slide.

That said, it sounds kinda stupid to me. You are removing a protective coating from a weapon, using chemicals not designed for that purpose, and potentially using it for defense. If you want to change the color on the slide, look at a cerakoting or similar.

That's just me, though.

Your comments make sense, ergo why I asked.
The Smith slide is supposed to be coated stainless.

I don't know about the integrity of the slide metal after it's been subjected to coating removal- but I do have a thought or two on the shiney slide you'll end up with. It'll look good, very good, if you never dink it around or scratch it. With polished stainless- abrasions, blemishes, and scratches kinda stick out like Nancy Pelosi at a FONRA Banquet.
