Converting 7.62 Nato blanks

I have 100 rounds of 7.62 x51mm linked blank sitting around. With brass being so hard to get now I'm wondering if it is convertible to live. Some concerns are case dimensions and thickness. Obviously I would start with a very conservative load.

This has been hashed out here and at the CMP forums in past threads. I've never played with the blank brass, but understand it is too thin around the head for firing at regular pressures. You'd have to section one to see.

I asked a gun smith about this last month. He said if do not have a use for it as blank ammo to cut the heads off and make fertilizer out of the powder. Maybe scrap the brass.

Also, don't blanks usually have larger flash holes to keep the primers from backing out, since you won't have the normal recoil force that drives the case backward against the bolt face to re-seat the primer?

I have used these for light cast lead loads using non gaschecked bullets. Worked fine but would not recommend for anything higher pressure.

Don't use the propellant in them for anything else. Very hot propellant.

If your that short on 308 brass. I encourage you to join Cast Boolits web site and buy some range or new brass. Which is sold quite often there at reasonable prices. That's all the guidance I dare to offer. Good luck with your decision Sir.
