What kind of Dan Wesson is this?
I got this as part of a trade, as a 15-2. Is that correct? It might be hard to tell in the photos but it's blued, 6in barrel.
Also, can anyone date it? |

Here's a good place to start:
http://www.danwessonforum.com/forum/...ve-start-here/ According to this: http://www.danwessonforum.com/dwf-co...ialNumbers.pdf it was probably made/sold in 1979. I used to have a 4" version like that one that I bought used in 1978. No idea what the serial number was. Last edited by JC57; September 16, 2012 at 06:47 PM. |

One of the few things I know about DWs is that the word "Monson" on there is a GOOD thing. They made 'em right nice at that plant.

The Monson, Mass marked guns are considered better built and they bring a premium. The Dan Wessons are definitely getting more collectable all the time.

I am so sorry, but my wife will not let me date guns. But it sure is pretty.

The only Dan Wessons I've ever owned were 22's, but they are great guns.

Unless someone may come in after to correct me, I'll hold that this is a 15-2. A model 15 would have the external nut on the front of the barrel whereas the 15-2 has the recessed nut to retain the shroud. Model 14's go by the same characteristics, except that they are a service-type revolver and do not have the adjustable rear sight and the front sight is lower (and pinned to the shroud) to compensate for the different height. Shrouds are different due to this. You CAN use a model 15 shroud on a mod 14 if you replace the front sight with a lower one (available from EWK) but you cannot swap out a 14 sight on a 15. At least not without some serious POA/POI issues.
They are great shooters and I'm sure you'll love your Dan!

Its either a 15, or a 15-2. The terms were swapped about a bit so it might be either. Its more likley to be a 15-2 with the Monson address though.
The barrel is "standard" as opposed to H (heavy) or VH (wnted rib, heavy) so tit would be a 15/S as the barel shroud type was part of the description because of the wide variety available.

It is a very nice model 15-2 monson gun. The blue looks great and so does the grips. Check the cylinder gap with a feeler gauge, should be. 006 but you can set it tighter. I set mine at. 0025". Great gun that can withstand 1000's of full house mags till the stinking cows come home.

A twin of my DW
That looks like a twin of my DW 15-2. And, I am thinking 1979 as a production date. And, it is a great shooter. I am a terrible shot and with 158 grain full-power loads I can still make 2 1/2" groups at 25 yards, single-action, standing and free-handed.
