Need help removing a 870 fore end
Could someone here please explain to me how I would remove the fore end from a remington Express 870?
I have the wrench. I want to change over from the wooden stock to the black hard plastic one. I took the cap off and took the spring out but am unable to find out how the thing comes off. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Before you can remove the forend wood you must remove the forend from the gun. Check the disassembly instructions in the manual, it will tell you how to remove the forend.
Once the forend is off wrap it in a heavy soft cloth and place it on a bench. Hold the forend down with one hand and remove the forend nut with the wrench. The nut is very tight if it was put on by the factory so this may take a little effort. The heavy cloth will keep you from scratching the forend. Once the nut is off the forend wood slides out from the forend iron. The forend may take a little coaxing as it is a tight fit. When you put the plastic forend back on you may have to tap it on with a piece of wood as again it is a tight fit. Simple job, but it takes a little elbow grease to get the wood off sometimes.
