Guys w/ "old" LnLs, are you upgrading to EZeject?
Guys w/ "old" LnLs, are you upgrading to EZeject?
Starting in Feb the company is going to let us retrofit our older version LnLs with the new EZeject system - for $100.00. It will also require that we get new shell plates. They'll give us two for free and the others will cost $10.00 each. I can't decide if I want to do it. My LnL is working fine and like they say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" - does that apply here? When I add it all up, I'm looking at about $150.00 and I don't know if it is worth it. The EZeject thing is supposed to make the Hornady the premier progressive press on the market, bar none. What say you LnL owners - are you gonna retrofit? Hack |

Nah, I'm in no hurry to upgrade... I don't have any real problems with the old ejection system.. I guess maybe if I reloaded the calibers that have been said to exhibit issues with the old wire ejection system (9mm mostly, is what I've heard), I probably would then.

I may do it as I understand the press gets a factory cleanup as well. I'll be curious as to how far they go in refurbing parts they consider worn, etc., that owners consider negligible. They did a free upgrade of the pivot on mine when they introduced locking screws.

I am sending mine back to Cabelas this morning for an exchange. I have had nothing but problems with the ejector spring with 9mm, .30 carbine and .223. I have spoke with Hornady 4-5 times and they have sent 2 new ejector wires and a crimp die for station 5 and I am still having problems. Cabelas is really easy to work with and was more then happy to exchange for the new model.

cgaengineer, looks like you got it covered. When you set up your new press, how about letting us know if it really is the cat's meow.

I sure will, from what I have read it is 100% reliable. Someone on this forum has the new model and also over at Brian Enos at the following link.
http://www.brianenos.com/forums/inde...howtopic=74931 I had originally thought about sending it to Hornady along with a check for $100 to upgrade, but since I have only had this press for a little over a month I was still able to return. Cabelas paid for return shipping and was one of the best companies I have ever dealt with as far as customer service. I am able to keep my existing shell plates as they are the newer style with the groove cut in the bottom. I have 4 total. For reference 9mm, 30 Carbine and .223 have gave me trouble, 9mm being the worst, .223 a close second if just running empty cases through to resize. Cabela's is 5 star service. |

I use mine for 45 mostly and don't have any problems. I think the problem must happen with the smaller diameter cases.

I don't think I'm going to jump on the bandwagon yet. I want to wait about 6mo. to a year to make sure the "new" setup has really fixed the issues. Plus, mines running OK now. After priceless help from Shoney, the press works nearly flawlessly now. It actually bound up on me twice with .40SW yesterday out of about 300 rounds. A quick adjustment and no more for now. I loaded about the same with 9mm and didn't have one issue and this was my biggest headache. .45ACP has been a dream to reload on it.

Short answer, I don't need to upgrade.
Since I purchased mine before the turn of the century (I love to say that), My LNL does not have powder thru expanding. At first, I was aggravated with non eject on 9 Luger and 9 Mak until I started polishing the shell plates. I don't have the extension for the case feeder. My kids are gone and we no longer participate in organized matches, so my current setup is adequate.
