Bushnell 3200 5-15x mil dot question.

I have a Bushnell 3200 tactical 5-15x and have been reading over how to
measure up the mills correctly in the little booklet provided with the scope
which explains mils and how to use the mils on the scope and I just cant make
up my mind what the directions are trying to indicate.

In the booklet provided it explains the 6-24x tactical version and says to set it
at 12x power which is marked in red instead of gold as to be clear of which
variable power to set the scope to accurately range with object in mils.
Only problem I have a 12x and a 15x but my 15x power is marked in red and my
12x is marked in white as with all my other powers. So is 15x marked in red my
mil dot setting or do I use the 12x power like suggested in the instructions
because 12x is the setting for all their mil dot scopes.. Or is it the 15x because
its marked in red..

Thanks for any help fellas.

Use the setting that

is a different color from the others. As the Bushie is a second focal plane scope, the milling feature only works at one power setting. IMO that feature makes the scope very limited....you might as well have a fixed power scopes.
All really good variable mildot scopes are first focal plane (like Schmidt & Bender) so the milling feature is useable at all powers.

IME you can range with a laser rangefinder and get the shot off quicker using a regular scope than all the milling and knob twiddling that is cool but pretty much useless unless you are an constantly trained professional sniper.

I bought a 4-30x50 6500 mildot and while it is a fine piece of optics the milling feature is almost useless and it will be sold when I return to WY in June and replaced with a FFP scope with a simple BDC reticle.
