You can create an accurate load with all of those powders.
Are you looking for a particular velocity? Jimro

Jimro, Im looking for 2850-2950.
I dont think casefill is a problem being this bullet gets seated deep. I have started with 64,65,66, grains of RL22, @ .050 off lands and that puts this bullet with powder ticklin its hind end.

This may help some: http://www.longrangehunting.com/foru...ag-load-53801/
Pretty much all the powders you have available are going to get into that velocity range. Let us know how the Rl22 does for you. Jimro

65 grains of RL22 is normally listed as max for 160 grain lead core bullets, so the last two loads may be a bit stout.

I have experience with 140 and 180 gr VLD in 7mmRemMag with Re17 and Re22 respectively.
I get good velocity and good groups at 100 yards. I get good long range groups. Then I shot some animals with it at close range. No workee. I am back to Nosler ballistic tips. Bang flop at 500 yards, bang flop at 50 yards.

I'm not sure if these loads will go huntin, I'm planning on shooting long range targets maybe beyond 500 yds depending on if the rifle likes them.

cant speak about powders because i have never loaded the 7mm mag or any 7mm.
i would recomend Federal 215 magnum primers for any of the non IMR powders for 7mm mag or any H&H based cartriges. for IMR powders winchester large rifle magnum gets best results especialy the slow burning 4831 and 7828 |

I have not loaded the Bergers.I have a box,though.Need to play,myself.
You have a great assortment of powders to try.Its going to be up to your rifle! I might get surprised, but I suspect your winner will be Re-19,Re-22,or H-1000. |

hooligan1, Berger has 17 powders listed for the 7mag with 168gr VLD and you have 8 of them. R-17 and 780 isn't listed.
IMR-7828ssc,R-25,Ramshot Magnum,Norma MRP,N-560 max velocity was over 3000fps but that was with 26" barrel. My 280AI I worked up two loads using IMR-7828ssc and R-17 with 160gr AB and I found those two powders worked with Berger 168gr VLD and 180gr VLD. I had to do some adjustment on seating depth. Well good luck

Old roper, my model 70 has a 26" barrel. If I could pick your brain a bit, what were starting and max loads with those powders for the 168 VLD?
Please and thank you.

Hooligan,
Also read this. Seating depths are funny with VLD's, and often wind up best at greater distances off the throat than you expect for tangent ogive bullets. Their new hybrid ogive is supposed to address that, but I don't know if that's what you have or not?

Old roper thanx for the info man I appreciate that.
Unclenick, I started two data loafs with RL22 and seated those dudes .050 off the lands and the funny part (which aint funny) they have to be seated .020 more to work in my magazine, now I can load and shoot one at a time like normal test loads but to load the magazine I definitely have to go deeper which may cause some powder wieghts to become compressed. I'm not worried about that cause if I can, I'm looking more towards a target load at this point. Roper your the man dude thanks again. hooligan1

I used IMR4831 with those. Awesome load. 0.375" @ 100yds My accuracy peaked out at 2810 fps. 2825 and above spread the group out over 1 MOA in a old Winchester
The seating depth is weird, they like to jump to the lands, about 15 thousandths in my gun. My chamber was 3.350 and I ran it back to a 3.335 COAL. Very good BC for my Arizona winds H4831SC is another very good powder. I got similar results, but I have two kegs of the IMR that I load for my .30-06 so I stuck with it. |

Shot those loads today, nothing worth looking into.
I will try different powder and tighter BTO, and go back to roper's dope with H1000.
