WalMart is antigun

I was just reminded by member HipoweringAlong when I read his post in "new deals". He mentioned that his local wally world was not stocking ammo and he had gone to Dick's Sporting Goods for a deal on UMC 45 ACP Remington green box. When I saw his post it reminded me of a visit I paid to a new WalMart in my area. The store is in Alta Vista, VA. While I was there I went to the sporting goods dept. as I do anytime I go to WalMart. What was strange about this visit was that the store had a display case for rifles but only had soft rifle cases inside the glass display case. Out of curiosity I asked the sales clerk about the peculiar sight. She told me that they weren't sure if they were going to carry guns at that store.

Well I buy a lot of things at WalMart and ammo being just one of them. I'm sure other sportsmen and their families use a lot of their products as well. It seems that they are either afraid of the NewYork antigun crap thats going on here in VA, or they are just antigun themselves.

I have visited quite a few of their stores in my area and there are a lot of them. I've noticed that their pistol ammo has been depleted and it seems as if they're not reordering.

One day while at the checkout I had purchased a brick of 22LR and the cashier asked if it was handgun or rifle ammo. It didn't dawn on me until now why they wanted to know. I had told her that it could be used in either, a handgun or a rifle. Now I believe WalMart is going to move away from selling firearms and related items.

There must be something we could do to organize a campaign to let them know that they are making a mistake in doing so. Anything from writing and calling their corporate offices, to a complete boycott of WalMart and Sam's club (which I'm a member of).

Anyone out there got any suggestions on what we can do to sway this belligerent giant?

You could simply start shopping at your local gun dealer's and forget WalMart. That's what I do. You could also shop your local grocery store, hardware store, sporting goods store, hobby store etc and forget about WalMart altogether but that's a whole different discussion

No they are not antigun. They are pro-maximum profit. Guns are a hassle due to all the ridiculous laws and regulations and resulting paper work and possible liability. They are too big(read easy)a target for trail lawyers. Trust me it is strictly a profit motivated decision. Fortunately there is still the internet as the gunshop owners / personel and their prices in this area(Tampa FL) are simply a joke. What amazes me is that Sam Walton started as the little guy mom and pop type five & dime store. Now his company is considered the anti-christ mass enslaver of the working poor and cause of the end of the world as we know it. I just don't get it, I was always taught it was a good thing to be successful.

I am boycotting Walmart until they start selling what I want. I want Hydraulic hose they ain't got. I want an eye examine they send me me to some specialist that a 3 hour drive away. (And this Walmart was already a 45 minute drive) I want 15 inch mud tires. All they have is 16 inch. I want cow tags. You guessed it they ain't got those either. I want camo clothing. They want $85 for a jacket. I can go across the street and get the same damn thing for $69.99. I want garden hose. All they have is the vinyl hose that melts in the sun. (The Walmart hose is junk. If you leave it under pressure for a few days it starts to look like a garter snake that just ate a rat.) They want $9.99 for T shirts. I can get them from the local store on sale for $3 even. Not to mention I almost lost an eye to the waly wolrd ammo. Some of it was so under powered it barely left the barrel. Others were so over powered I thought the gun was going to fly apart.

Yes I know that this corp is profit motivated, as any corp should be. They have a responsibility to their stock holders. Yes I know that guns are a hassle in regards to paper work and record keeping, not to mention that in todays world, guns are politically incorrect. Most people shudder at the sight or the mere thought of everyone owning a gun.

But come on people, 56 views and only 5 replies so far. I heard from someone else in gun circles, that WalMart is indeed antigun. I think I saw it on the internet. There is a grassroots movement going on in North Carolina right at this moment, action is being taken against the power companies for posting signs to prohibit guns on the power company's premesis. I don't think we can reasonably boycott them. The movement over there has taken other measures. If I remember correctly, it also mentioned that WalMart had posted signs to the same effect but later removed them, I can't remember why.

There must be many of you out there that can contribute valuable information, as to a course of action besides boycott and writing corporate offices, which I mentioned in my first post. There must be other pertinent information that can be noted here. Anyone got a solid plan out there that will kick money grabbin' WalMart in their crotch, and let them know that, we won't stand for their bull any longer.

I'll jump in on this.

I just returned to California after quail hunting in Arizona for the past three days. Before leaving to hunt, I was in a neighborhood Wal-Mart looking for automotive gear when I spotted cases of 20 and 12 gauge shotgun shells on sale – I remind you, I am in California. I was then assisted by an older Asian woman who was very polite but not very knowledgeable about the ammunition – she was going to charge me $33.00 per box instead of per case (with 20 boxes, well you do the math). Coincidently a second Wal-Mart employee (woman) came by, chuckled, and helped the first woman ring-up the correct total.

Both of these two women were very polite to the point that when I was leaving, one of them stated, “Have a safe and enjoyable hunt”. I have no problems with Wal-Mart when it comes to ammunition purchases although their firearm selection is a bit meager.

I got a good deal on the ammunition, no one scoffed at my purchase and the Arizona hunting was outstanding!

My nearest Wal-Mart Super Center (North Fort Worth) just pulled all guns out of the cases, but kept the ammo. I asked a female sales clerk what happened. She told me that this particular Wal-Mart sold so few guns that it was not profitable to stock them. They will still special order whatever I want. She also said they made enough on ammo that they would continue to stock it. She seemed very well trained and knew her ammo. I had no trouble buying a case of 9mm and she had no trouble finding it.

It is simply a profit issue. Wal-Mart, like any other store, cannot stock everything you want. So it Wal-Mart offends you, shop elsewhere. It will free up a parking space for me so I can park close to the door and buy ammo by the case.

Hey Wild you left out a c for concentrate. But I got you . Election? what election. The choices for candidates here in VA leave a lot to be desired. It was the same bull when I lived in NJ. To vote for a candidate just because they're pro gun is a horrible way to chose. Unfortunately most often that is what it boils down to. Don't get me started, this topic should have it's own thread.

i have never seen so many wal-mart haters as i do in these gun forums.so many hypocrites! bitch bitch bitch,if you dont like a particular store or their views,dont shop there! pretty simple really.
if i have the tv on and i dont like the program i will simply change the channel. i will never go there just for ammo,if i am there and they have a smokin deal on wwb....great! if not i will go to my local gun shop,which is where i buy my guns in the 1st place. should just quit now i suppose..................
