One shot

I've had some bad experiences with one shot on rifle cases. Recently I lubed and resized and noticed it was a little stiff so I pulled it before I went all the way and re lubed, ensuring it was well covered. Stuck it back in and bam, stuck case. This is the second rifle case I've had get stuck with this crap. I bought some rcbs case slick and case lube 2, today, hopefully ill have better luck. Anyone else had these issues?

Like many of us, you have learned why it's called "One Shot". You've had yours.

I started out with lots of Hornady stuff like LnL AP press, LnL Case Prep Center, book, etc..

I tried using Hornady's One Shot and I almost gave up on reloading because I kept getting stuck cases.

After that, I got rid of my One Shot spray, the lube pad and the Hornady dies. I still have the book, but rarely refer to it.

Now, I still use the LnL press and the LnL case prep center but with Imperial Sizing Wax and Redding dies. I am a very happy reloader turning out high accuracy .308 ammo. If I had to do it over again, the only Hornady product I would buy is the press and case prep center. The rest is crap as far as I'm concerned.

Try something else...

OK Cafe 86--If One Shot isn't doing it for you, I'd try a different lube.

My own choice is Imperial Sizing Die Wax--A very little goes a long, long way, and never, repeat, NEVER, a stuck case with this product.

Prior to using ISDW, I used RCBS Case Lube, which also worked, but it was messy to apply compared to the Imperial, so I switched and have never looked back.

I've never had any issues with Hornady one shot. Just make sure you wait for a minute or so before you start resizing and you should be good.

I have been reloading for just under a year, I started with Oneshot and still use it. Never had a stuck case, a few times I felt a case going in tight so i backed it out and re-sprayed the block again. Since then I make sure the WHOLE case gets sprayed! Im sure some day I will switch to resizing wax, but Oneshot is just convenient for me right now.

Is it just me, or does anyone else always think "stuck case" when you see One Shot in the thread title or "One Shot" when you see Stuck Case in the title?

Well, I use RCBS case lube/ pad, and in thirty years 0 stuck cases.
Okay fine if you don't want to purchase another Hornady product,( although the One Shot has never been good) see who that really hurts in the long run.

I think any spray die is uneconomical and prone to error. For me a lube pad or rolling the cases between my hands with some Imperial is the way to go.

Did you allow it time to dry?

Sounds like the spray would be OK for use on tapered cases like .30 Carbine, or .45-70 Govt. I have as of yet to try it. Doubt I will either. I will not bad mouth a product I have not used.

I have stuck 2 .223 Rem cases in my over 50 thousand I have sized. Both times it was my fault. (Trying alternative lubes that did not work too well.) Using RCBS lube I finger lube all of my cases. I put some lube on a couple of patches. Roll one though my thumb, and fingers. Then lube a few cases. Repeat till all are lubed then size. I clean the die out with brake cleaner after every session then apply a small bit of oil to prevent the die from rusting. I remove the oil before using the die. With that method I have never stuck a case.

DO NOT use One Shot on 30 carbine!!! Believe me. 30 carbine and their tapered case are notorious for getting stuck in dies even with the best lube. I tried One Shot and had issues with it. I'd use it on straight wall pistol brass if I needed to, but good old RCBS lube and a lube pad is still the best.

Topic's been beaten like a dead horse.
I swear by it. I load 300-400 large cal centerfire rounds- all bottleneck- at a time, no lube pad for me...

Spray liberally- from BOTH sides of the case loading tray, at a 45 degree angle to get plenty of lube in the case mouth for the expander ball.

Let dry one minute to let the solvents evaporate.

12,000 rounds or so, and counting....

Yes this has been discussed a lot but here's one point I don't think I've seen mentioned. Remember that a lot of chambers will be slightly bigger or smaller than others. I definitely see this in some '92 Winchesters shooting 25-20 and then the same brass in a Remington 25 pump. Maybe One Shot will work fine for say 90% of the brass/chamber combos but for that 10% where the brass really expands a lot more One Shot isn't good enough but the sizing wax is just a little bit better and makes them work. Might explain the totally opposite opinions. Something to think about.

Jag 2, it is nice to see that there is someone who knows that "a lot" is two words not one as I constantly see on here.

I've never used One Shot on any rifle casings because of what I've read on-line (I have Unique and RCBS for rifle) but I do use it when resizing my handgun casings, it does make the job notably smoother even with carbide resizing rings.

I prefer to avoid this common trap and just use the term "agreatdeal".

I've stuck 2 cases with one shot.
Now I use it only for "light" resizing and use something better for the "heavy" work.

Just to stir the pot, I use STP on a stamp pad. Have not recharged the pad in over 30 years and have NEVER had a stuck case. You do need to clean off the cases before loading, this stuff is slick. Goat

One Shot works great on pistol brass. Spray a batch with the case feeder running, size with carbide die, then clean with ss media. Makes the sizing easier and smoother. For rifle, Imperial works better for me, and a whole lot more economical.

I like One Shot, but one thing I did notice while using it. Before you spray them down, I use an old cleaning kit brush and run them down the neck to clean anything that may be in there. It helped me for sure making sure I didn't get a case stuck in bottleneck cases.

Example: for my .223 cases, I use an old .22 wire brush from my cleaning kit and run them in the necks of the cases. Then I spray them down with the One Shot. Doing it this way I haven't had a single stuck case.
