Which 9MM under $1000 NIB

XDM 5.25" is a fantastic, NIB 9mm range/competition gun.

P226 always comes up, but I have yet to shoot one.

I personally love my all steel Baby Eagle, which is based off of the increasingly popular CZ handguns.

Those are three pretty solid options, all under budget.

under 1,000 opens the field by quite a bit.
Are you looking for a metal frame? Polymer? Clay?
are you looking for double action/single action? single action only? double action only?
are you looking for hammer fired or striker fired.

personal experience has shown that one of the few DA/SA pistols I would be willing to buy would be the Sig Sauer P226. great single action trigger pull, no physical safety but it does have a decocker, great balance and very accurate. it feels good in my hands but every person is different. average retail is a little over $800

as far as striker fired polymer framed pistols go I feel that there is no equal to the Springfield Armory XDM. great triggers, very high ammo capacity, feels great in hand(again, every shooter is different), very accurate, fun to shoot, great at managing recoil, and it comes with lots of little goodies that are worthless to most but I find very handy to have for a range gun(like magazine holster and gun holster). they can be had for under $600 if you shop around but $625 is about the average.

I'm not familiar with all the CZ models but CZ's are sweet pistols.

There are a lot of great choices in that price range and it would be best to try out some to see how they work for you.

My personal number one choice in that price range is the SIG P226. I like it so much I have a couple of them.

Also check out the Walther PPQ. While a more compact poly frame pistol it is pretty amazing as a range pistol also with a terrific out of the box trigger with terrific grip and ergos.

Both these pistols easily meet your criteria.

I looked at three different handguns today, one was a used Dan Wesson Guardian 9mm , nice gun but was well over a grand & I'm just not a big 1911 fan

Another was a used CZ 75 SA Target (by The CZ Custom Shop) which I have being held for me while I make a decision.

Also the Sig 226 Elite, Big gun & very heavy.

I would say go for the 'gold standard' and get a Browning Hi Power. Stepping down next for me would be a Beretta or Taurus 92 followed by a CZ75.

For your stated purpose, accuracy and comfort are paramount and these will get the job done @ the range (or on the moon figuratively speaking)

Truth be told, any of the recs in this thread will make you a happy camper.

I've owned a CZ75B, put 300 rds through my Beretta 92fs at the range today. Also own a 9MM Beretta PX4 compact & a 9MM CZ P07 DUTY.

Looking to take it to the next level.

I don't think there is a "higher level" than JMB's finest (arguably as everything he designed is "butter"

) the Hi Power? Have you considered it?

Try Smith and Wesson's M&P line of semi autos. They are great. I have over 10 thousand rounds through an M&P 40 full size, with no failures except those due to using very crappy ammo. I also have around 3,500 rounds through and M&P 40 compact with no failures either.

if you thought the Sig was heavy then perhaps a polymer framed pistol will be best for you, I still stand by the XDM9 but will also throw in the FN Herstal FNX9 since you seem to have an affinity for DA/SA designs. very decent pistols, never heard much gripes coming from owners.

You must have handled the P226 Stainless Elite?? A regular alloy framed P226 weighs a little less than a CZ75.
