Scope for a .22LR

I've been messing around with the idea of a Marlin 925, CZ 452, or a Ruger 77/22. I like using my TechSights iron sights on my Ruger 10/22, but most bolt action .22s don't have very good options for iron sights. I think only the CZ would accept TechSights, I'd have to tap in a front sight for the 77/22, and the Marlin doesn't accept the iron sights I would like. So I'm probably going to buy a scope. I'll keep it at a low power, 2-4x because I will be using my rifle for hunting small game. Who makes a quality rimfire scope? My father is recommending Nikon, I guess he feels they are a reputable optics company, so they should manufacture quality scopes. I've heard good things about Leupold also. Any quality American companies to consider? I love buying domestic products. Thanks for any advice.

Some Savage Mark II rifles have iron sights and the CZ452 and 455 Lux come with iron sights. I prefer a CZ452/455 American with a scope and I don't mess around with crappy scopes. You'll want to stay with a rimfire scope because they are set to be parallax free at 50yds vs 100yds for a centerfire scope. The high quality but still low budget option is a Weaver Classic Rimfire RV4 4x28 for about $120. The second high quality budget option is a Weaver RV7 2.5-7x28 for about $140 and it also a darn good little scope. The medium buck option is a Leupold FX-1 4x28 or VX-1 2-7x28 both are about $220.

A step down in optical quality from all of the above but still a decent scope is a Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40 or 4x32 Rimfire scope. I include them because the CZ requires pretty high rings and larger scope might look better up high.

This may help you compare.

The CZ455 Lux is designed for open sights.

The CZ455 American is designed for use with a scope.

Nikon Prostaff Rimfire 4x32. Perfect power setting, great glass, eye relief. Reasonably priced.

I put a standard 1" scope on my 22. It works much better than the "made for 22" scopes I have seen. The extra field of vision is handy in hunting small game that sometimes moves around quickly.

You mileage may vary.

I have a Nikon Pro Staff 4x32 on my 10/22; adjustments work, glass is clear, eye relief is good. It is also light and doesn't put the rifle out of balance.

I have been very pleased.

Bushnell 4x rimfire scope has worked well for me. They also make a 3-9x rimfire scope. I bought mine for about $40.00 a few years ago.

I have the Nikon Pro staff 3-9x40 rimfire/BDC on my Savage 93/17. It is great. Spent the afternoon on the range today putting round after round on to a 3 inch steel walking target no problem.

It is setup for a .22 but will work with any rimfire if you run it through their spot on calculator. I personally think the glass us clearer than my leupold gold ring. But the depth of field is not as good.

I have shot jack rabbits and PDs at around 200 yes with it and it starts lacking in magnification but the BDC recticle with good dope get you on target really fast. Plus it is very cost affective and has nice dials.
