Va bill blocking gun permit information passes

Va. bill blocking gun permit information passes

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The public would not have electronic access to records of Virginians with permits to carry concealed handguns under legislation on its way to the governor.

Republican Del. Dave Nutter’s bill passed out of the Senate unanimously on Wednesday. It passed unopposed from the House earlier this month.

Nutter first introduced the bill last year after The Roanoke Times posted the state police database of permit holders on its Web site. Former Attorney General Bob McDonnell advised the state police to stop making the list available, but Nutter said any Circuit Court judge could overrule the opinion.

The bill died in a Senate committee last year, but sailed unopposed through the General Assembly this year.

The public would have access to the records at the local circuit-court clerks offices.

The bill also allows the state police to release summary data about concealed-weapons holders, as long as it does not contain identifying information about the holder.

I don't think Kaine will sign it.

He's pretty far left in his beliefs about gun ownership and use.

He just doesnt push it too hard.

Chris, Kaine is still here. He did veto the restaurant bill last year. It's cleared the house and senate again this year and is on it's way back to Kaine again. There'll be a lot of unhappy campers here if he does that again. If he does, at least he won't be in the way next time.

I heard at the gunshop here tonight that Kaine said he'll veto it again.

I hope i heard wrong, I'm tired of locking my gun in the glovebox just to go eat dinner.
