Swiss K31

I just had to have another service rifle. So I ordered a K31 from Samco today. I chose the beechwood stock because seemed to be in the best shape. They said that all the rifles had hairline cracks in the stocks. I'am hoping I won't be disapointed. I also picked up some surplus ammo from Classic arms at $37 for 60 rds. Is there a better deal on the Swiss 7.5 somewhere?

Cool rifles, and fun to shoot. Except when the hot, ejected case goes straight up and back landing inside your shirt coller!
When you get yours, take the but plate off, and look for the tag. It will have the name, D.O.B, town, and unit of the person the rifle was issued to. Some guys have actually been able to contact the original soldier. http://www.swissrifles.com/sr/tags/
$37 doesn't sound to bad for the the G11 ammo. Last I saw, before the ammo panic, it was in the mid thirty dollar range.

Used to be able to get Prvi for $7.95,then $12.95,now i see it at $15.95,so all things end.Great under appreciated rifle,it's like a Finnish mosin,it'll shoot better than the firer.Bought a second one a few years back, just to get the extra magazine for rapid fire matches.

I have seen hand guards with hair line cracks but not the main stock, they are very robust.

If you change stocks you should keep the steel shim that is between the receiver and stock. These are different thickness and effect the accuracy of the rifle by changing the preload on the fore-end fit with the barrel.

You can't go wrong with a K31. Most examples I have seen are in exellent shape. Have heard many stories of superb accuracy of these rifles using the original Swiss surplus ammo.
Considering the "Panic" $37 for 60 sounds OK by me.

I've been using Samco & Ammoman for bulk 7.5. Samco has the best deal I can find.

Received rifle and cant wait to shoot it. Very nice metal, the stock shows some history especialy around the butt. According to the serial #'s it would be made in 1951.

Did you remove the butt plate, and check for an ID tag? Just a little added bonus history If it has one.

I'm assuming you didn't want more ammo, because Samco has the 7.5 at $120 for 240 rounds- which at $.50/round, is less than what you paid at Classic (?).

Anyway, they are an incredible value- and I can't get handloads to shoot any better than the GP-11, so with cost being about the same I probably won't bother to handload for it anymore unless the GP-11 dries up or increases in price.

If you do handload for it- be careful. My Sierra book listed the OAL for the 7.5 x 55 at 1/4" too long for the K-31.
There are several chamberings for the 7.5 x 55 (unbeknownst to me at the time), and they didn't specify...

I've dealt with Classic several times. The K31 was my first with Samco is why I didn't include ammo with them. I'am sure I'll get more after my next range trip from Samco.

The k31 is a great rifle. Good trigger and very accurate rifles, the GP11 ammo is of very high quality and shoots very well for me.

I need to find another one and a nice Swedish Mauser to go with my incoming Garand.

At "Gunbot", there is a very limited selection of types of ammo, but the info appears to be updated not only more often than on "Ammoseek", but also with more specific details.

If the most desperate people decide to pay.20/round of .22LR, they can find it.
I still have 2,000 rds. of 7.62x39 for .20/round.

"Ammoman" still has Swiss 7.5 at $350/480 rounds, but it has Berdan primers, which are Not reloadable for most of us.

He also still has surplus Russian 7.62x54R at a decent price.
MN rifles and ammo must be the "sleepers" during this period of irrational buying.

I haven't found a crack. The butt of the stock does have some marks and dents. The metal and bore are nice.

I bought the 480 rd case for $240 less than a year ago. How fast things can change.

I was hoping some of the more obscure milsurp cals like 7.5 x 55 wouldn't have been affected as much, but they were still hit.

Most all K's have beaver chewed butt's. The soldiers would stack their rifles in snow were they would freeze. They would then need to kick the stock free from the snow, just a light tap with the ice cleats on their boots.

Shot the K31 and what a surprise. At fifty yards, 10 rounds, 1 1/2 group. It was raining hard so thats all I shot. I expect to do better as I get use to the trigger and sites. I'am hoping for same results at 100 yds.
